Case Worker(s) Progressive Life Center (PLC) is one of the mid-Atlantic's largest and most respected non-profit agencies serving vulnerable children and families. PLC is recognized for its pioneering work in developing culturally responsive approaches to mental health and child and family development. Our services include foster and kinship care, afterschool educational programs, mentoring, adoption placement, independent living skills, parenting support, mental health counseling and crisis hotlines. PLC has offices in Washington DC, Maryland, Delaware, and Pennsylvania. There are two Case Worker positions available in the Montgomery County Maryland office. Case Worker Program Summary: The Family Preservation program minimizes the risk of children being removed from their family and home. Intensive, in-home services are provided to build upon existing family strengths, minimize family crisis, stabilize the family unit, and keep the family intact. Case Workers work up close and personal with families to identify strengths and needs, and develop plans of care specifically tailored for the family. Families are involved in all aspects of treatment and intervention. Position Description The Case Worker position requires the incumbent to provide relevant family strengthening and referral services to program participants. The incumbent will be responsible for co-facilitating family strengthening sessions; provide family and individual counseling; assist clients in identification and coordination of utilization of appropriate community resources; complete safety assessments; develop family service plans; and other duties as assigned. The incumbent will be responsible for co-facilitating family strengthening sessions; provide family and individual counseling; assist clients in identification and coordination of utilization of appropriate community resources; complete safety assessments; develop family service plans; and other duties as assigned. Specialize in one or more of over 40 practice areas - including Disaster Relief, Child Welfare Services, and Homeless Family Assistance, among many others. Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in social work, psychology, counseling or other related human service discipline from an accredited college or university. Master's degree in social work, counseling or related human service disciplines from an accredited college or university preferred. Valid LBSW, LGSW, LPC, or LCPC licensure in the State of Maryland preferred. Two (2) years case management, counseling, and/or crisis intervention experience. Experience working in the Human Services field with at risk population. Experience in providing home-based services. Strong basic computer skills and/or experience in utilizing web-based case management programs. Exceptional written and verbal communication skills. Owner of reliable transportation and a valid driver's license. Ability to work a flexible schedule. Certification in NTU Service Delivery Model within one (1) year of hire. Bilingual in English/Spanish Physical Demands: Physical Demands (Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions). Ability to remain in a stationary position 50% of the time. Ability to occasionally move about inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, etc. Ability to operate a computer and other office productivity machinery (ie, a calculator, copy machine, mobile device and computer printer); Manual dexterity needed for using a mobile device, calculator and computer keyboard. Ability to position self to stoop kneels, crouch, or crawl. Ability to navigate stairwells. Ability to frequently communicates with employees/customers/clients; and must be able to exchange accurate information by perceiving the nature of sound, near and far vision, depth perception, providing oral and written information. Ability to detect funnel clouds from long distances. Ability to frequently move files weighing up to 20 pounds throughout the office space. Ability to participate in fire drills or other drills during an emergency situation. Ability to be available on call and often respond to situations during off hours which can disrupt normal sleep patterns and cause fatigue. Ability to be able to physically restrain children when required and protect him/her in physically confrontational situations. Ability to face a significant amount of emotional stress which can cause related physical stress on muscles as well as other physical symptoms such as headaches and fatigue. In cases of child relocation, the incumbent may be required to assist the child by carrying belongings and must often lift, carry and/or comfort small children.
