Join our elite team of IT leadership as the senior management and subject matter expert for county-wide geospatial technologies, providing technical and managerial oversight, and direction in development of strategic goals and plans for the county's enterprise geographic information system (GIS). As a leader in the GIS community you will oversee and provide overall leadership in the design, selection, procurement, implementation and integration of GIS technology and services county-wide; supports components of the enterprise GIS technology platform including: Orthoimagery, Oblique, Planimetric and aerial imagery, LIDAR, photogrammetry, proprietary and open source GIS software, web provision of GIS, GIS data standards, mobile data collection, cloud services, and open data. Enhances and develops the enterprise-wide GIS program to support the spatial needs of county agencies to include the central GIS platform and related applications and services. Builds strong relationships with county agencies and collaborate with agencies regarding the application of GIS to a variety of business and data needs. Works with other local jurisdictions in the state on monitoring legislative issues which could affect local GIS operations and furthering the use of GIS in the state, and advises the legislative processes on matters that affect GIS operation in Fairfax. Also participates in the Council of Governments (MWCOG) GIS Subcommittee, and supports and/over oversee NCR regional interoperability work for geospatial data exchange and maps related to homeland security. Ensures support for developing GIS maps and emergency operations and situational awareness. Successful candidates will be passionate about promoting the use and importance of GIS technology, developing training for county agencies employees, and host annual GIS Day events. Employment Standards MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:Any combination of education, experience and training equivalent to possession of a bachelor's degree in computer science, or closely related field; plus seven years of progressively responsible experience in applying information technology to meet the needs of a government or business organization.

The appointee to this position will be required to complete a criminal background and credit check to the satisfaction of the employer.

Five years of GIS program and team management experience. Expert knowledge of ESRI and ArcGIS software suite, and GIS open source software or cloud services. Broad familiarity with key components of enterprise GIS operations and platforms including: remote sensing (for example aerial imagery, LIDAR), photogrammetry, web provision of GIS, GIS data standards, surveying/ground control, proprietary and open source GIS software. Must have knowledge of the spatial needs of county programs including Public Works, Public Safety, Land Development, Human Services, Zoning and Parks. Excellent oral and written communication skills. GISP (GIS Competency Management Model).

Work is generally sedentary, performed in a normal office environment. All duties performed with or without reasonable accommodations.
