The Kennedy Center is seeking a Manager of Annual Giving and Donor Insights to join the development office. The Manager will oversee all direct response fundraising projects, including the Membership programs of the Kennedy Center, National Symphony Orchestra, and Washington National Opera, as well as all other direct response campaigns such as National Patrons and recurring giving. Making data-driven decisions, the position will manage toward key fundraising KPIs, striving to increase contributed revenue and donor engagement across all donors contributing less than $1,200 annually. Along with auditing the database for trends, the Manager will focus on segmentation and moves management, researching, organizing, and evaluating donors' further financial capacity, willingness, and ability to give. Regular reports will be provided to major gift offices and department leadership on prospects, along with recommendations for segmentation and deeper engagement.

The position will work closely across development, notably with the Manager of Individual Giving and the Director of Strategy and Special Projects - as well as key research individuals around the Center - to develop institution-wide moves-management strategies. In the immediate future, the manager will be tasked with coordinating direct response fundraising needs for the public phase of the Capital Campaign, and helping develop and execute fundraising strategies for the Center's upcoming 50th anniversary. A successful candidate must understand how to promote a culture of philanthropy across the organization, as well as demonstrate a clear understanding of a donor's philanthropic motivations.

Duties and Responsibilities:

20% Direct internal staff, consultants, and vendors in the development, production, implementation, and analysis of direct response fundraising campaigns, raising in excess of $3.5m. Oversee the internal management of all such campaigns. Campaigns include the Membership, National Patrons, and recurring giving programs.

20% Develop and execute strategies to identify lower level donors with the capacity and aptitude for increased financial engagement with the Center. Serve as liaison between lower level giving offices and mid/major gift offices.

20% Use analytics and research techniques to segment donor and prospect database, cultivating a deeper understanding of the Center's current and potential donors. Collaborate with Manager of Individual Giving and Director of Strategy and Special projects on such initiatives.

20% Manage communications for all donors contributing less than $1,200 annually, segmenting messaging based on designation, contribution amount, donor status, communication channel, donation program, etc.

10% Produce donor briefings and reports based on capacity and engagement, as well as on an as needed basis.

10% Manage budget for direct response programs.

Education/Experience

  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • At least 5 years' experience in a direct response fundraising related position
  • Proven ability to operate in a fast paced, changing environment
  • Strong writing and editing ability, especially for direct response content

Minimum Skills and/or Knowledge Required

  • Proven history of managing direct mail programs in excess of 1 million pieces annually mailed
  • Familiarity with common printing techniques and terms required.
  • Experience with relational databases required.
  • Has demonstrated a deep understanding of the motivators for philanthropic donations, as well as how to develop a relationship with donors and prospects via mass communication channels.
