Institute Associate, Institute for Technology Law & Policy - Georgetown University Law Center

The Institute for Technology Law & Policy at Georgetown Law is training the next generation of lawyers and lawmakers with deep expertise in technology law and policy. The Institute provides a uniquely valuable forum in Washington, DC for policymakers, academics and technologists to discuss the most pressing issues and opportunities in technology law today.

The Institute Associate conducts academic research, writes and provides papers, helps to organize conferences, and otherwise assists the operational and administrative functions as needed. S/he evaluates legal policies and findings as they relate to law, applies insights, and develops actionable solutions. Reporting to the Director of Centers and Institutes, the Institute Associate has duties that include but are not limited to:


  • Conducts academic research
  • Produces written work reflective of his/her academic  research
  • Provides legal research to determine appropriate involvement in constitutional litigation likely to have an impact at a programmatic or policy level.
  • Informs participation in constitutional impact litigation, including in support of written briefing materials.

Policy Support and Development

  • Drafts briefing materials in connection with Centers and Institutes.
  • Revises and edit s briefings and policy materials.
  • Provides feedback on briefing and policy materials.
  • Makes recommendations as needed.


  • Organizes conferences.
  • Assists in operational functions of Centers and Institutes.
  • Provides mentorship, feedback, and guidance to Centers and Institute Fellows and Students.

Student Mentorship

  • Conducts supervisory meetings.
  • Possesses knowledge of projects and client needs.
  • Routinely critiques student work.
  • Evaluates students.
  • Maintains supervision files.


Demonstrates mastery of the discipline sufficient for teaching law students.


  • Juris Doctorate degree
  • 3 to 5 years of professional experience in the legal field
