Montgomery College, Office of Student Financial Aid, has an immediate need for a full-time Financial Aid Student Information Systems Specialist II, #S03479. This is a non-exempt, bargaining position, Grade J; non-exempt positions are not eligible to work a secondary job at the College. The work schedule is Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. Position is located in Rockville, MD.

Job Summary: Under supervision and direction, an incumbent analyzes, develops, implements, and maintains computer programs and systems that implement solutions to complex problems in support of the Montgomery College Financial Aid Office and maintain compatibility and integrity. Incumbents serve as resource for co-workers in the use of Banner Financial Aid module to ensure that all upgrades and changes are tested and working correctly in production. Train unit staff on all Financial Aid software systems. Maintain and troubleshoot the imaging system for the unit and provide training to end users. Serve as backup to other Financial Aid Specialists as necessary. Prepare ad hoc reports for end users using a combination of provided reporting tools, Crystal Reports, etc.
Contacts include College staff, information technology professionals, Department of Education and students to obtain information, troubleshoot systems, and create and maintain new and existing
reports.Job Description

Duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Analyze, develop, implement, and maintain computer programs and systems that implement solutions to complex problems.
  • Manage/coordinate, update, and maintain tables and forms in Banner Financial Aid module, and imaging system.
  • Coordinate system upgrades, changes, and enhancements relative to the Banner Financial Aid, ImageNow, UC4 any other software employed by (FA) department. Evaluate and test all release upgrades, monitor vendor releases of upgrades and patches, assess functionality, and identify the need for Financial Aid t module enhancements. 
  • Write, revise, and maintain Financial Aid services system documentation as pertains to area of responsibility.
  • Set up all batch processes regarding Student Financial Aid Cycle including tasks as: new aid year setups, identifying applicant requirements, cancel/adjust aid for State Scholarships, adjust students aid periods based on enrollment, awarding Summer Pell, run weekly/daily batch packaging etc.
  • Evaluate current Financial Aid business processes and work with the program managers to provide solutions and systems enhancements.
  • Set up the system correctly to support Financial Aid Life Cycle efficiently.
  • Write ad-hoc reports to access information from Financial Aid information module. 
  • Develop operating protocols and procedures.
  • Troubleshoot processes, and resolve issues within the Banner Financial Aid module. Develop training material and provide Financial Aid System software training to Financial Aid and other identified Montgomery College staff.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in information systems or computer technology or related field.
  • Minimum of two years of experience working with the implementation and set-up of Financial Aid Information Systems or any other Student Information System module (preferably Banner). Any combination of education, training, and experience providing understanding of the field and the ability to perform the essential functions of the job may be substituted.
  • Knowledge of and ability to use office technology (software, computers, printers).
  • Knowledge of the appropriate student information and imaging systems and system report writing.
  • Skill in troubleshooting systems, conducting analysis and resolving system
  • problems.
  • Skill in organization, time management, and leadership.
  • Ability to actively listen and communicate clearly and effectively.
  • Ability to prioritize work in order to meet numerous deadlines with little or no supervision.
  • Ability to diplomatically handle multiple tasks despite frequent interruptions and difficult situations.
  • Ability to work independently and as a team member to meet Federal, State and college deadlines that significantly impact awarding of Student Financial Aid.
  • Eligible applicants must currently be authorized to work in the United States and not require employer visa sponsorship.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree
  • Banner Financial Aid Student Information System Software
  • General Knowledge of Financial Aid Federal and State regulations.
  • Experience preferably supporting one or more financial aid program (i.e. Pell, Student Employment, Loans, or Scholarships).
