Responsibilities

The Assistant Director for Internships and Employer Development provides leadership to the university community in the areas of internship development and coordination, employer relations, and student/academic department relations. The Assistant Director coordinates experimental and active learning efforts, including oversight of the for-credit and non-credit internship process. The Assistant Director also develops and evaluates plans, provides management oversight, and serves as liaison with all University offices and outside organizations about internship policies and execution. The Assistant Director will provide assessment of initiatives and outcomes.

Minimum Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and/or abilities required.

Education/Work Experience:
Requires a bachelor’s degree in business, marketing, psychology, communication, public relations or other related major. Must possess experience in a collegiate environment to understand the academic culture and must have the ability to effectively interact with faculty, staff, students, parents, and administrators. Familiarity with corporate and nonprofit human resource management. Understanding of experiential education and career advising. Experience in presentation of workshops and public speaking.

Skills and/or Abilities:
Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Must exhibit excellent oral and written communication skills. Must have superior interpersonal skills with a demonstrated commitment to cultural diversity. Ability to research and quickly develop knowledge of employer recruiting strategies, job market trends, occupational, career and personal growth. Proficiency with Windows environment including word processing, knowledge or database programs. Must be a self-starter and possess strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Demonstrated ability to organize and work independently and as part of a team. Ability to respect confidentiality and ethical boundaries with regard to guidelines, supervision and professional consultation within an academic environment.

Work Environment:
The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to outside weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

Preferred Qualifications

Master’s degree is preferred.
