Our work supports advancements in every area of the hospital including the emergency department, pediatric unit, cardiac program, intensive care unit, neonatal intensive care unit, mental health program and the Aquilino Cancer Center.

The Development Specialist is a dedicated self-starter and critical front-line member of the fundraising team at Shady Grove Medical Center Foundation. The Development Specialist will work with the Foundation Director, the greater Adventist HealthCare philanthropy team and other colleagues throughout the hospital system in a highly collaborative manner in order to help meet our fundraising and strategic goals. The Development Specialist will report to the Foundation Director and is expected to collaborate with and take direction from the Vice President & Chief Philanthropy Officer.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
•\tAs a member of the “front office”, provide excellent customer service to community members, board members, donors, prospects and colleagues across the organization.
•\tResponsible for effectively and efficiently completing activities and meeting target deadlines in order to help the team meet its financial and strategic goals.
•\tInterfaces with and provides support to the board of trustees, manages board meeting preparations including materials and logistics, prepares board binders, takes minutes at board and committee meetings, sends out board meeting reminders, agendas, reports, special mailings and other necessary board documents, creates the board and committees' annual calendar; maintains address/contact information for all board members and other board-related documents.
•\tUsing Raiser's Edge, maintain and edit donor database files, perform basic queries as needed to prepare necessary reports and lists.
•\tProcess donations and assist with acknowledgment letters, solicitation letters, confirmations and reminders.
•\tProvide high-level administrative support to the Director and Vice President, including preparing letters, reports, scheduling meetings and maintaining calendars; coordinating special projects/programs; and other administrative duties.
•\tProcess invoices and reimbursement requests
•\tWith guidance and strategic input, carry out the planning and execution of successful prospect and donor engagement events.
•\tAssist in producing donor communication pieces including proposals, reports, newsletters and more.
•\tIdentify and execute best practices that result in improved business processes and fundraising results.
•\tPrepare organized, structured and persuasive presentations using effective written and verbal communication.
•\tRepresent Adventist HealthCare throughout the community and actively engage in networking.
•\tPerform other duties or special projects as needed.

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Other Characteristics:

•\tUnderstanding of philanthropy and the donor cycle
•\tCreativity, imagination, problem-solving skills, and the ability to adjust direction and strategies
•\tExcellent verbal and written communications skills
•\tDemonstrated ability to take initiative and follow through on projects and policies
•\tGood organization skills and the ability to manage a variety of tasks productively and independently
•\tProficiency in Microsoft Office suite and proven ability to learn new technologies to meet the needs of the organization as it grows
•\tExcellent customer service skills
•\tProficient with copy machines, fax machines and other office equipment
•\tAbility to handle a multi-task environment
•\tStrong organizational management and leadership skills
•\tAbility to maintain confidentiality and apply discretion
•\tAbility to function under stress and time constraints

Education and Experience Required:

•\tAssociate's degree required with preference for an undergraduate degree
•\tTwo (2)+ years' experience in a nonprofit
•\tExperience in using Raiser's Edge or similar fundraising database
Work Schedule:

This position is Monday-Friday 9-5
