Requirements

Financial Analyst, Office of Financial Planning and Analysis - Division of Financial Affairs

The Financial Analyst provides both ongoing and ad hoc financial analysis to support the mission of the Office of Financial Planning and Analysis. S/he provides monthly monitoring of campus and department operating performance, of spending on capital projects, and of cash flow performance using both the direct and indirect method of cash flow reporting; and produces regular reports and provides guidance to campus financial staff on proper recording of transactions. The Financial Analyst assists the Deputy University Budget Director in preparing the Financial Plan and the Annual Report of the Chief Financial Officer; and develops reports and projects that are presented to the Board of Directors, senior management, and the University community. Reporting to the AVP of Financial Planning and Analysis, the Financial Analyst has duties that include but are not limited to:

Ongoing Monitoring of Financial Performance

  • Produces Monthly Financial Reports (Operating, Capital, and Direct and Indirect Cash Flow).
  • Reports significant variances, and documents reasons for variances.

Ad Hoc Financial Analysis

  • Produces pro forma analysis for new programs and capital projects.
  • Produces financial analysis and reports as requested for operating, capital, and cash flow performance.
  • Supports the production of the University's Annual Financial Report.

Support for Financial Plan Development

  • Produces schedules for various allocations, such as debt service, depreciation, and central services allocation.
  • Produces projections for endowment income.
  • Produces the supporting schedules and analysis included in the financial plan, such income statement, capital plan, tuition, and fee schedule.
  • Produces any other supporting reports and analysis as needed for the development and production of the Financial Plan.

Collateral Duties as Assigned

  • Provides additional analysis on economic conditions, such as interest rates and inflation.
  • Serve as a backup for processing wire transfers in the banking system.
  • Serves as a backup for delegation of GMS inboxes.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree - preferably in Finance or Accounting
  • 3 to 5 years of professional experience in performing complex financial analysis, budgeting and forecasting 
  • Strong working knowledge and experience in MS Excel (pivot tables), Word and PowerPoint

Preferred qualifications

  • Knowledge of principles and practices of fund accounting and budgeting, as well as experience in higher educational organization
  • Knowledge of Cognos
  • Strong organizational, interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills
  • Ability to prioritize competing projects and work under pressure to meet stringent deadlines
