The Kennedy Center has openings for part-time Theater and Non-Theater Ushers for work starting in mid-September. Pay is $13.25/hour.

Job Description: The Kennedy Center is seeking motivated, enthusiastic individuals with exceptional customer service skills for part-time Theater/Non-theater Usher positions. Shifts are in various areas both inside and outside the theaters. Shifts range from 2 - 5 hours, but actual hours worked vary according to the performance schedule.

Hours vary, but generally run from 6 - 11 pm nightly and from 12 - 5 pm for weekend matinees. Some weekday shifts start at 5 PM. Occasionally shifts may go to midnight or later.

We have some shifts that start at 4 PM on weekdays. Please let us know if you are available for one of these times.

The Ushers offer assistance and information to guests and visitors about the Kennedy Center and its performances and events by pro-actively anticipating the needs of our customers and personalizing service to meet individual needs. Must be effective at listening to, understanding, and answering questions raised by guests and visitors, while providing the most pleasant and helpful services possible.

Requirements: Individuals must possess the following knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the essential functions of the job:

  • Able to speak and understand the primary language (English) used.

  • Strong communication, organizational, decision-making and interpersonal skills

  • Ability to multi-task and work well under pressure

  • Ability to work collaboratively with others as part of a team

  • Must acquire and have extensive knowledge of the Kennedy Center, its performances, events and procedures.

  • Be sensitive to guests and visitors with special needs.

  • Able to stand and walk for up to five hours per day.

  • Able to tolerate heights (i.e., able to work in the highest level of the theater).

  • Able to lift and carry up to 15 pounds

  • Available to work holidays as required.

  • Requires grasping, standing, walking, repetitive motions, bending, good listening and hearing ability and visual awareness.

  • Two years prior hospitality experience preferred.

  • Able to attend and successfully complete all aspects of orientation and training.
