The George Mason University School for Conflict Analysis and Resolution (S-CAR) invites applications for a tenure-track position as Assistant Professor of Conflict Resolution. The position begins in August 2019. The School for Conflict Analysis and Resolution is committed to the development of theory, research and practice that interrupt cycles of violence. Having established the worlds first M.S. program in conflict resolution in 1983, S-CAR is home to degree programs at the B.A./B.S., M.S., Ph.D., and Certificate levels and has an affiliate M.S. program in Malta and an undergraduate degree program in Incheon, South Korea. With four vibrant centers and multiple projects and programs, S-CAR faculty and students are engaged in significant research and practice worldwide; nationally; and locally, in the Washington, D.C., metro area. Responsibilities: The responsibilities for this position include:

  • Teaching two courses per semester (including undergraduate and graduate instruction);
  • Maintaining an active research and/or practice agenda;
  • Participating in curricular development, student advising, and other service activities; and
  • Contributing to the Schools intellectual life.

Qualifications: The School for Conflict Analysis and Resolution seeks highly qualified applicants whose work strengthens or complements the Schools current offerings. Candidates with expertise in any area will be considered, but particular attention will be given to scholars with a demonstrated ability to develop new and innovative pathways for conflict analysis, resolution and transformation, especially those who are able to build on, expand, or reform the existing areas of focus at the School as represented by the curriculum concentrations at the undergraduate and graduate levels, and the four research centers. Candidates having a familiarity with any aspect of Conflict Analysis and Resolution are encouraged to apply. The School is interested in candidates who engage directly with todays real-world conflicts through intervention, advocacy, public scholarship, consultation, action research, evaluation and other forms of practice. There is no restriction on disciplinary affiliation or methodological expertise for this position. S-CAR invites applicants from any academic discipline or interdisciplinary background who can contribute to the vision for the School to promote and build on its characteristic approach to peace and conflict studies. Central to our approach is wide diversity in scholarly standpoint, the recognition of multiple and antithetical points of view, and the inclusion of once marginalized perspectives.
