The Virginia Modeling, Analysis and Simulation Center (VMASC) at Old Dominion University is seeking candidates for the Executive Director of VMASC/Associate Vice President for Applied Research (full-time, 12 month) position. This position will provide executive leadership to the Virginia Modeling, Analysis, and Simulation Center (VMASC) by establishing the vision for the development and execution of applied research in modeling and simulation, data analytics, cybersecurity, and autonomous systems, and related research areas. This position also works closely with University colleges and departments as well as other universities within Virginia, nationally and internationally, along with industry and government agencies to realize and expand the discipline of modeling, simulation, and visualization. The Executive Director bridges the corporate, academic, government, and political worlds building and fostering collaboration with other research centers in the Commonwealth and the nation.

Required Education: Master’s of science degree in engineering, science, business, or other M&S-related field from an accredited college or university.

Required Qualifications: Demonstrated success in research or contract funding. Demonstrated understanding and familiarity with modeling and simulation, data analytics, cybersecurity, and autonomous systems sciences. Demonstrated understanding and familiarity with organizations and trends within government and industry. Excellent interpersonal skills interfacing with senior leaders in a variety of organizations including government, academia, and industry.

Preferred Qualifications: Doctorate degree in engineering, science, business, or other M&S-related field from an accredited college or university. Demonstrated success in development and managements of center-level grants and research contracts. Demonstrated success in development and managements of state-funded grants and directed appropriations. Demonstrated history of leadership roles in academic and industry M&S organizations. University research center management experience.
