Southern Maryland Electric Cooperative, Inc. (SMECO) has an immediate opening for an electrical engineer in our Project Management Services department due to recent promotional vacancies.  The position includes the following responsibilities:

  • Engineering and design of new and existing substations including physical and electrical drawing development, schematics and wiring diagrams, specifications preparation, electrical calculations, and compliance with project planning requirements. 
  • Preparing material and construction contracts including drawings, material lists, and specifications, and managing the procurement process including bid evaluations and recommendations for award.
  • Performing on site construction management of contractors to ensure that all work is completed safely and within scope, schedule, and budget, with minimal impact to the Cooperatives Operations.
  • Coordination of various consultants, contractors, and internal SMECO departments during the execution of the planning, engineering, procurement, construction and operations of the defined project.

    Position Requirements

    An ideal engineering position candidate will have a Bachelor of Science degree in electrical engineering from an accredited program and be or able to become a registered Professional Engineer with experience in the Electric Utility industry.  Specific experience in substations engineering as well as material procurement, construction, and contracting is most desirable.

    However, all experience levels will be considered and are encouraged to apply.  Salary will be commensurate with experience.
