SUMMARY:   AFA is searching for a transformational Leader for the Air Force Magazine which is comprised of the monthly print Air Force Magazine, Air Force Magazine website, and the digital Daily Report.  AFA seeks a leader who is an integral part of the overall AFA leadership team. The candidate must understand all aspects of the magazine publication process and fully embrace the future of digital journalism.


The position requires someone with the skills and experience to review current publication processes and recommend changes to increase efficiencies.  The review should focus on process improvement, maximizing revenue and audience.  A key part of the review includes identifying requirements for a new website and digital advertising software.   


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Oversees the print Air Force Magazine   (10 print copies and 2 digital copies per year)
  • Oversees AirForceMag.com website and associated social media platforms
  • Oversees the Daily Report digital newsletter
  • Manages the overall Publications budget  
  • Conceptualizes, plans, edits, and approves print magazine content
  • Monitors and evaluates production processes for process improvements
  • Develops and implements plan to increase print magazine sales channels, DR subscribers and website visitors  
  • Leverages Air Force Magazine social media channels to drive readership and revenue
  • Works with the President to write a monthly editorial column
  • Ensures products are desirable, of top quality, delivered on time, and promote AFA’s interests
  • Stays up-to-date on current Air Force and national security issues
  • Mentors and provides development opportunities for the  staff
  • Partners with the MARCOM department on promoting AFA programs and events via the AF Magazine’s channels
  • Partners with Corporate Relations and AFA’s advertising company to maximize ad sale revenue
  • Partners with HR on maintaining a strong network of authors, contributors, and subject matter experts to generate relevant, innovative, high-quality editorial content that is both mission focused and of interest to internal and external audiences  
  • Works closely with the AFA President and EVP, other departments and the AFA Board of Directors to advance AFA’s interests

    • SalesForce Marketing Cloud
    • Pardot
    • Office 365 and Sharepoint
    • Google Advertising platform, specifically Google Ad Manager and Google Analytics (currently use BanManPro)
    • Familiarity with HTML and responsive design
    • Experience or familiarity with Adobe Experience Manager is a plus



  • Bachelors degree minimum, advanced degree preferred  (Journalism, Writing, Communications, Digital, National Security)  
  •  Broad understanding of national security issues and knowledge of US Air Force preferred
  •  Soup to nuts understanding of the Publications process… from writing, to editing, to digital platforms, to advertising, to production
  • ·Minimum 10 years progressively more challenging, relevant, and successful work experience
