Software Developer, Department of Computer Science - Georgetown College

Georgetown's Department of Computer Science consists of twenty-three full-time faculty working in the areas of algorithms, artificial intelligence, bioinformatics, computer and network security, communication complexity, cryptography, database systems, data mining, distributed algorithms, distributed systems, human-computer interaction, information assurance, information retrieval, machine learning, natural language processing, networking, non-standard parallel computing, parallel algorithms, theory, and visual analytics.

The Software Developer performs programming, data analysis, and research support, in duties that include but are not limited to:

  • Engages in interdisciplinary research related to using Twitter and other open source data sets to advance both methodologies and computer science knowledge.
  • Develops algorithms and software that will support this research, and more generally data blending research.
  • Assists department professor with interdisciplinary research supported by the MDI, including research with faculty in the College.
  • Interacts with researchers in the Computer Science department, at MDI, across the Georgetown campus, and with faculty at other universities.

 Requirements

  • Master's degree in Computer Science
  • Preference for 5 years of working experience
  • Strong technical skills
  • Ability to understand computer science research as it relates to social science research.
  • Qualified in programming, database management, software development, engineering, and writing

Preferred qualifications

  • Database administration knowledge, PostgreSQL
  • Programming proficiency in JAVA, PYTHON, and C++
  • Web development skills
  • Understanding of basic statistics
