Job Description

Department Marketing Statement:

There are 2 positions.

This is a 24/7/365 operation, so the ability to do shiftwork is necessary. 

This is an opportunity to work in a world class Network Operations Center to provide support to one of the Nations' Leading Transit Organization. Ideal candidates will have skills and experience in the following areas: 

Monitoring experience with Spectrum or HP Openview is highly desirable, as well as ServiceDesk and Remedy.

Ability to triage a problem, escalate it and run a bridge as necessary. 

 

Minimum Qualifications:

Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Business Administration, Information Technology or related field.  A minimum of two (2) years of experience in a network operations environment, monitoring and managing of software and/or hardware infrastructures, problem management, event and fault management and incident escalations.  Also, a minimum of two (2) years experience with network management software tools and agents such as HP Openview, CA Spectrum, or Netcool, including a minimum of one (1) year experience supporting IP-based load balancers.

Equivalent combination of education and relevant work experience will be considered if candidate can effectively demonstrate progressively responsible experience within a network operations environment, monitoring and managing of software and/or hardware infrastructures, problem management, event and fault management and incident escalations. Also a minimum of three (3) years experience with network management software tools and agents such as HP Openview, CA Spectrum, or Netcool, including a minimum of one (1) year experience supporting IP-based load balancers.

Also, must have experience which includes one or more the following:

- Practical knowledge of Domain Name Services (DNS) in a large-scale enterprise environment.  Knowledge must be specific to Unix-based DNS services and the relationship between WINS, DHCP, hosts files, load-balancing, and troubleshooting.

- Hardware and software support for Windows 2000/2003/2008 server, UNIX hosts, Cisco routers, switches, CSU/DSUs, and communication circuits.

- Server administration and troubleshooting (Windows 2000/2003/2008)

- Email administration and troubleshooting (Exchange 2003/2007/2010)

- Server administration including:

     - Addition/deletion/cleanup of email accounts/IDs
     - Creation and executive of a file backup and recovery plans
     - Creation and execution of database backup and recovery plans 
     - Operations documentation including startup/shutdown, backup, and recovery procedures.

Medical Group:

Satisfactorily complete the medical examination for this position, if required.  The incumbent must be able to perform the essential functions of this position either with or without reasonable accommodations.

Job Summary/Duties:

This position is responsible for providing support and services to Network Operation Center Analyst Tier II and Tier III and the Network Operation Center, which provides 24 X 7 fault monitoring, network management and troubleshooting for the entire WMATA Wide Area Network Infrastructure. Responsible for protecting the integrity of the WMATA Wide Area Network infrastructure to ensure and protect the transport of data traffic information traveling across the network infrastructure reaches its destination without any disruption to services due to hackers, virus, intrusion or breach to various network components connected to the network infrastructure.   Fault Monitoring provides for "in-service" or "out-of-service" monitoring and upon identification of a problem, WMATA personnel alerts, meeting Service Level Agreement for detecting in five minutes, responding in twenty minutes and restoring services within two hours. Utilizes various monitoring tools such as NMS systems, configuration managers, or other proprietary tools.  Responsible for escalation and notification of network incidents to engage the appropriate personnel in immediate problem resolution leading to service restoration, as dictated by incident severity.

Provides both statistical and graphical performance information of the network. Reports include information on traffic patterns, bandwidth utilization, protocols used, and tuning recommendations from our team of experienced Senior Network Operation Analysts.

Operates and maintains a graphical network map for WMATA.  As an added service, topology and design concerns will be noted with recommendations for improvement.

Triages anStores and maintains router and/or switch configurations on a secure server. In the event of a failure requiring replacement Network Operations Personnel can download the configuration of a device enabling a fast restoration of service.

Tracks and reports on quality level of service for Networks, Groups, Servers, and Functional Units in conformance to SLAs.

Protects the integrity of the operation, by adhering to NOC policies and procedures.

Replaces network devices every three years and break/fix maintenance on all currently supported devices.

Provides hardware and software support for Windows 2000/2003/2008 server, Unix hosts, Cisco routers, switches, CSU/DSUs, and communication circuits.

Provides server administration and troubleshooting (Windows 2000/2003/2008).

Provides email administration and troubleshooting (Exchange 2003/2007/2010).

Handles password resets and provides helpdesk support 24x7.

Performs backups to support mission critical applications and data information backups.
