Civic Center Director of Operations Grade
Insures that all events, facility planning, and maintenance requirements are met., Essential duties and responsibilities include the following; other duties may be assigned: 1. Formulates, recommends, and implements long range goals and objectives for Operations/Engineering Division, including division budget. 2. Assists in computing and posting payroll for Operations/Engineering Division. 3. Promotes public relations with facilities renters, promoters and patrons. 4. Lays out setup of equipment needed for multiple events. 5. Conducts employee training for Operations/Engineering Division employees in the safe operation of various equipment, including forklift, air lift, trucks, and power scrubber; and proper handling of chemicals used for cleaning and maintenance. 6. Performs minor electrical and welding tasks. 7. Serves in rotation with other senior staff members as Manager on Duty for major events., Manages up to 18 subordinate supervisors who supervise up to 100 employees in the Operation and Engineering Division. Is responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of these units. Also directly supervises 10-30 non-supervisory employees. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems. Education and/or Experience: Bachelor's degree from four-year college or university and three years related experience in maintenance and repair of building and grounds similar to the Civic Center; or seven years related management experience in maintenance and repair of building and grounds similar to the Civic Center. Communication Skills: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community. Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format. Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or governing body. Mathematical Skills: Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basis algebra and geometry. Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations. Computer and Administrative Skills: To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Microsoft Office products.
