Job ID 54539 Category: Information Technology Location: Reston, VA Posted: 5/24/2018 Job Description ABOUT THE POSITION We are currently seeking a dynamic LAN/WAN Engineer I to join our team at our office in Reston, VA . The LAN/WAN Engineer I will be responsible for on-going maintenance and support for portions of the Wide Area Network and Local Area Network. This includes the installation and maintenance of routers, switches, x86 servers, virtualization platform and other network components. The LAN/WAN Engineer I will test and evaluate the state of systems to make recommendations for improvement, troubleshoot issues and complete tasks as assigned by the supervisor. The engineer will work closely with Project Managers and business owners to determine business requirements for new system capabilities and take responsibility for service delivery aligned with requirements. This position does require occasional local travel. Position Responsibilities: Responsible for maintenance tasks and upkeep of the LAN/WAN infrastructure for optimal performance. This includes, installing vendor patches, reviewing and analyzing performance metrics and maintaining performance at baseline levels. Troubleshoots, diagnoses and repairs hardware and software assets. Gathers and parses requirements from the business unit and provides feedback and technical expertise as needed. Provide and maintains project documentation and management reporting Provide technical assistance and support for major incident outages Implement security controls as dictated by Organizational policy and Audit requirements. Work with third party vendors to maintain and support services as needed. Has the ability to work with little supervision to follow up and complete tasks as assigned. Help lead process improvement efforts by providing constructive feedback, suggesting alternatives and driving continuous process improvement Research system engineering products and services, provide direction and strategy for technical system selection and deployment Designs and executes upon disaster recovery and business continuity strategies as required Support for security and operational audits such as SOC, ISO, HIPAA HITEC Responsible for architecting complex business systems using a mixture of standard and custom hardware and software to meet our client's business needs Position Requirements: Education : Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related field required. Licensure : None required, but the following preferred: MCTA (Microsoft Certified Technology Associate) MCSA (Microsoft Certified Solutions Associate ) CCNA (Cisco Certified Network Associate) CCNP (Cisco Certified Network Professional) MCSE (Microsoft Certified Solutions Expert) Any Other Advanced IT Certification Relevant Work Experience: A minimum of 6 years of experience in an engineer role. Six years of experience in the following areas. Proven experience in IT infrastructure planning and development. Proven analytical, evaluative, and problem-solving abilities. Strong technical knowledge of current hardware, protocols, standards, and best practices. Relevant experience supporting production systems and applications built on Microsoft platforms, including Windows Server - SQL Server, Exchange, SharePoint, etc. Working knowledge of Active Directory, XML, .NET Framework, TCP/IP Protocols, Windows OS, IIS, SQL Server, and Network Load Balancers; and strong working knowledge and experience with VM and SAN. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities : Intermediate MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and Basic Project proficiency Analysis and problem solving skills (Intermediate) Interpersonal communication skills (Intermediate) Verbal and written communication skills (Intermediate) Group presentation and public speaking skills (Basic) Collaboration and team-oriented work philosophy skills (Intermediate) Proficient in using Storage Area Networks, VMware, Cisco routers and switches and Windows Server technologies (Intermediate) US Citizenship is required for this position.
