Job Description Technical Lead Systems Engineer General information: Location: Washington, DC Education: Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in Computer Science or a related field Experience: More than 5 years of experience working in a Tier 3 or hands on engineering development role Status: US Citizenship is required Custom Software Systems, Inc. (CSS) is seeking a DevOps Senior Systems Engineer who is passionate about the craft of delivering high quality solutions to our mission focused customers. The team is looking for a new member to work with them to identify and implement creative solutions which drive the team towards a more automated operations environment. This position will be the team lead for a team of system administrators. They will work together with other team members consisting of highly skilled developers, database administrators and WebLogic/ Middleware administrators supporting a complex infrastructure which is comprised of MS SQL Server and Oracle solutions including Business Intelligence , WebLogic , Oracle 12c . The ideal candidate would love new challenges, thrives on solving problems, is eager to learn, has great communication skills and a proven track record in DevOps . The DevOps engineer candidate must have experience implementing continuous integration deployment solutions across the full spectrum of DevOps in support of deployments for solutions including java web applications , application servers , database servers, and the supporting OS in RHEL 7. Key technical skills include: · Strong background in Windows and Linux/Unix Administration including developing STIG compliant Windows and Linux RHEL 7 images for application and database machines on both virtual and physical machines · Strong understanding and experience with implementing standardized methods for patching, provisioning storage and managing user privileges · Experience with implementing automation tools in support of OS level configuration management using either BigFix, SCCM, Puppet, Chef , or an equivalent · Experience monitoring the environment using Nagios, SolarWinds , or similar · Experience with platform transitions ie from Linux to Windows including performing various platform upgrades ie from MS Server 2012 to 2016, etc. · Experience managing security patches and settings in the Windows and Linux environments · A working understanding of the components of web-based Java applications · Comfortable scripting and scheduling cron jobs · Experience with script maintenance and updates due to changes in requirements or implementations. Key non-technical skills include: · Serves as a liaison between client partners and vendors to provide technical solutions that address user needs · Knowledge of best practices and IT operations in an always-up, always-available service · Creates and shares work estimates and operational requirements to enable accurate planning with realistic timelines · Has experience leading teams · Creates architecture diagrams and technical design specifications · Performs out of the box installation of supporting tools as requested by the client ( Atlassian , SAP/BO , Cognos ). Additional Responsibilities may be assigned including: · May evaluate new application packages and tools and may perform research on best practices · May provide recommendations for solutions. Position Requirements: · Requires a Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in Computer Science or a related field · More than 5 years' experience working in a Tier 3 or hands on engineering development role · More than 5 years' experience with creating and managing new security compliant images including Windows 2016 and RHEL 7.x · More than 2 years' knowledge of automated deployment frameworks such as BigFix , SCCM, Chef , Puppet, Docker, or Jenkins · Experience leading teams and work efforts · Experience building and managing high availability MS SQL Server database clusters , VMware, and SRM · Experience identifying opportunities for automating manual processes, designing and deploying automation solutions through all environments from concept to pre-production to production · Excellent written and verbal communication skills and ability to effectively work in a fast paced environment · High attention to detail with excellent analytical and troubleshooting skills · Must be able to work independently and with minimum supervision · US Citizenship Desired Qualifications: · Microsoft Certified Solutions Expert or similar · Web based Java applications support experience · Familiarity with MS SQL Server concepts and principals · Ability to analyze client operations to understand their strengths and weaknesses to uncover opportunities for improvements · Exposure to management and concepts for application middleware solutions ( Tomcat/WebLogic ) · Familiarity with cloud logging / monitoring tools such as Nagios, SolarWinds, OEM , etc. · Public Trust or higher clearance which has been most recently adjudicated after 2013 Thank you for considering us for employment.
