Job Description Job Summary: The Risk Manager develops, implements and coordinates risk management activities. Responsibilities: * Develops, implements and evaluates practices and policies. * Collects and assesses data to identify potential or actual sources of risk to patients and employees. * Collaborates with staff and quality committee members with respect to risk-related incidents, policies and practices. * Develops or facilitates safety, risk and quality care initiatives. * Responsible for event and claim investigations, management and litigation across all coverage lines. * Serves on the appropriate hospital/ministry event reporting core team and Serious Event Review team(s); facilitates reporting and classification of safety data/events. * Participates in root cause analysis related to near miss and medical errors. * Assures that data bases are maintained accurately to support all insurance functions, including reporting and investigations of Basket 1 incidents in the claim database * Evaluates risk management functions and processes through the use of data capture, follow up and trend analysis and presents findings to appropriate committees; collects, evaluates and distributes relevant data concerning patient/visitor/environmental injuries and near misses and aggregates summaries for Committee reviews. * Leads and /or participates on key Risk and Quality Committees at the direction of hospital leadership Coaches and advises departments and practitioners in sensitive situations involving actual or potential claims, including disclosure according to the CORE (TM) (Communicate Openly. Resolve Early) methodology; trained as a Situation Manager. * Assists with the development and implementation of initiatives and policies and procedures, including associate and medical staff education activities, PACT (Provider Associate Care Team) program and other risk reduction/elimination throughout the organization, to include orientation of new associate and medical staff members. * Supports the process of responding to Product and Safety Recalls and Alerts and Safe Medical Device Reporting of Adverse Events. * Supports all Ascension Risk Management goals, strategies and processes. * Ensures that policies and procedures regarding corporate compliance and privacy of patient and associate information are observed; models confidentiality and discretion of risk management issues. * Maintains availability and visibility to all departments, employees and the medical staff regarding risk management issues and resources by routine purposeful rounding throughout the Ministry. Qualifications Licenses/Certifications/Registration: * Preferred Credential(s): * Risk Management. Certified Professional in Healthcare Risk Management (CPHRM) within 3 years of employment preferred. Education: * Bachelor's degree in Healthcare, Nursing, Business Administration, Law or related field required. * Master's Degree preferred. Work Experience: * 7 years in Healthcare risk management, quality, patient safety, or law, including two years of leadership experience.
