General Dynamics is looking for an experienced MS SQL Server Database Administrator to join a dynamic cross-functional team supporting a mission critical Government credential production environment. The SQL database supports Java back-end application servers and .NET client software. You will be responsible for ensuring the performance, availability, and security of the MS SQL Server Database and related architecture. You will ensure system availability, data integrity, monitor/troubleshoot backup and recoveries, performance, disk space, and network connectivity. You will work in coordination with the team, providing technical assistance and support to system operations staff and end-customer client organizations. You will diagnose hardware, software, and operator problems and take remedial actions or recommend procedural changes. You will load and configure operating systems and applications, troubleshoot and resolve network issues, and handle common database functions, such as upgrade, backup, recovery, migration, etc. Must have ability to design and modify SQL database objects, including tables, schemas, indexes and triggers, and create/alter stored procedures and views. Experience configuring and operating VM instances (technologies such as VMWare) desired. Networking and firewall configuration skills desired. We are customer service focused, so strong communications skills, oral and written, are required. Support will be approximately 3 days on-site, and 2 days of remote support. Performs complex systems development and design work that may include logic design, I/O design, firmware development, model formulation, manufacturing and development cost projections, computer architecture analysis and design, and analog or digital systems engineering. Performs systems modeling, simulation, and analysis. Reviews completion and implementation of system additions and/or enhancements and makes recommendations to management and/or clients. Plans and directs upgrades of operating systems and designs systems enhancements. Develops documentation on new or existing systems. Develops and directs tests to ensure systems meet documented user requirements. Identifies, analyzes, and resolves system problems. Provides system/equipment/specialized training and technical guidance. Determines system specifications, input/output processes, and working parameters for hardware/software compatibility. Provides guidance and work leadership to less-experienced systems engineers and may have supervisory responsibilities. Serves as liaison with clients, participating in meetings to ensure client needs are met. Maintains current knowledge of relevant technology as assigned. Participates in special projects as required. 6-10 years of related systems engineering/database administration experience.
