Join the HJF Team! HJF is seeking a Nutrition Education Assistant to support the Consortium for Health and Military Performance (CHAMP) in the Department of Military and Emergency Medicine (MEM) at Uniformed Services University (USU) in Bethesda, Maryland. Responsible for creating and updating nutrition education curriculum, to include slide decks, instructor lesson plans, and digital or print participant resources, under supervision from Performance Nutrition Director. Also responsible for assisting Director with preparation of manuscripts, professional and scientific presentations, reports and literature reviews. Projects include but are not exclusive to: Go for Green and Creating Healthy Effective Forces (CHEF). Additionally responsible for administrative duties. Will assist coordination of two nutrition research studies, to include maintaining spreadsheets, filing systems and other tools for tracking and monitoring project milestones. Will coordinate meetings and maintain meeting minutes and agendas. Responsibilities: Independently creates and updates resources for use by participants includes both print and digital; topics may include performance nutrition, general nutrition, and culinary tips. Assists development of nutrition education curriculum for instructors, under supervision of Director of Performance Nutrition; writes, edits, and updates components of curriculum to include slide decks, instructor lesson plans and activity guides. Compiles curriculum components and maintains filing system with all electronic and print versions of curriculum. Assists writing and editing of program requirements, checklists and other guidance for study sites using Go for Green or CHEF program. Teaches at Train the Trainer sessions for Go for Green and CHEF program. Contributes to research and program evaluations related to nutrition programs by: conducting Program Fidelity Assessments at selected research sites; tracking compliance with program requirements and timeliness; maintaining spreadsheets and filing systems; and assisting with data collection and maintaining records. Answers questions from nutrition community stakeholders about Go for Green via email and phone. Maintains tracking of all engagement. Independently compiles qualitative data from program evaluations; summarizes data pertaining to feasibility of program at selected research sites. Independently conducts reviews of current evidence for topics. Aids staff in analyzing and interpreting the literature related to nutrition, culinary education and other topics. Provides assistance to Director of Performance Nutrition in writing and editing papers for publication in technical and peer-reviewed journals based on experimental results. Provides assistance creating scientific posters and PowerPoint presentations for presentation at professional meetings. Provides administrative support to the nutrition programs and research studies through: meeting planning, recording meeting minutes, distributing supplies to research sites, coordinating printing of training manuals, and resources for program recipients. Assists CHAMP on outreach efforts. Works as a team member with education and research staff. Aids other staff members in reviewing and interpreting literature, preparing manuscripts and preparing presentations for professional and scientific meetings. Performs other duties as needed. Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Strong attention to detail and high level of organization required. Proficiency with PowerPoint to include creation of images, tables, figures and graphs. Proficiency with Word, Google sheets or Excel (data management only, not statistical functions). Familiarity with, and willingness to learn EndNote for citation management. Ability to think creatively and engage in problem solving. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Minimum Education/Training Requirements: Degree in Nutrition. Master's degree in Public Health or similar/related Master s degree. Minimum Experience: 2 years experience as a Health educator, Nutritionist, Project Coordinator or similar for an outpatient or community nutrition project; experience creating educational resources (print/digital).
