Medical Assistant Master
Seeking a Medical Assistant with experience in an Allergy practice Performs clinical and administrative duties in an ambulatory setting under the supervision of a physician. Duties may include venipuncture, documentation of vital signs, and assisting providers with patient exams. Qualifications EDUCATION: High school graduation or equivalent; completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program preferred. EXPERIENCE: Externship experience in a medical office or ambulatory health setting strongly preferred; experience working with electronic medical records preferred. LICENSE/CERT/REG: CMA (Certified Medical Assistant) by American Association of Medical Assistants, or RMA (Registered Medical Assistant) through American Medical Technologists or equivalent within 6 months of hire. CPR certification. SKILLS: Clinical competency as verified annually. Excellent customer service/patient interaction skills. Basic computer skills preferred. Primary Duties and Responsibilities Assists physicians with patient preparation for examination and with the examination and education of patients. Attends all scheduled meetings including, but not limited to, regular staff meetings and training classes for safety, infection control, OSHA, CPR and others as required. Calls in refill prescription medications for patients after physician approval and documentation. Completes requisitions for tests (if applicable). Pre-authorization of medications. Cleans, stocks, sterilizes equipment, and prepares exam rooms for patients. Collects and processes specimens, completes requisitions, and documents log tracking book or other applicable forms. Contributes to the achievement of established department goals and objectives and adheres to department policies, procedures, quality standards, and safety standards. Complies with governmental and accreditation regulations. Demonstrates behavior consistent with MedStar Health mission, vision, goals, objectives and patient care philosophy. Documents clinically related activities accurately in the medical record. Maintains equipment/environment; (ie: carts, cabinets, utility rooms, refrigerator) and assists with medicalsupply requisition. Maintains log system and performs required patient follow-up for pap smears, Pb levels, HIV, mammograms, and STD's. Participates in daily team huddles and planned visits for the patients. Screens all patients, regardless of visit type, for preventative care needs, ongoing support, or barriers to care. Conducts surveillance for transitions of care, emergent care, or follow up tasks such as retrieval of documents associated with referrals/testing. Conducts motivational interviews that include screening and/or coaching on disease management ability, motivation to change, learning care needs, community outreach needs. Participates in population management activities including an awareness of the populations they serve and engage the patient in self management support, goal setting, previsit planning, and the capturing of information that leads to health care improvement activities. Performs other duties as assigned. Performs selected patient and laboratory testing such as pregnancy testing, urinalysis, microbiology(streptococcal testing and cultures), tuberculosis skin testing, electrocardiography, pulmonary function tests, and vision and hearing testing (dependent upon physician and site requirements). Removes sutures/staples after the provider has examined the patient and written the appropriate order. Performs venipuncture and finger sticks on children and adults (and heel sticks on infants, if applicable). Under physician supervision may insert angiocatheter for intravenous access by provider. Processes specialty referrals including insurance authorization. Provides escort for patients and assists with patient discharge activities. Provides chaperoning for patients per policy. Serves as backup for the Medical Receptionist and the Health Information Assistant, Referral Coordinator, or Discharge Coordinator (if applicable). Under physician supervision may insert, remove, and monitor foley catheter for procedures. Under physician supervision, prepares and administers oral drugs and injections limited to intradermal ,subcutaneous, and intramuscular (deltoid, gluteal, vastus lateralis).
