What You Will Do: Nursing Assistant/Supplemental Nursing Pool - Program A The Supplemental Nursing Unit at University of Maryland Medical Center offers the experienced Nursing Assistant an opportunity to provide care in any number of world-class clinical specialties and practice settings, from Shock Trauma to Neurology, and from surgical specialties to outpatient care. Our staff supports every unit of the hospital, meeting acute needs and filling in for staff who may be on extended leave. Job Responsibilities: 1. Establishes and maintains courteous and effective relationships with patients, visitors, co-workers, and other members of the health care team; demonstrates sensitivity and awareness to the needs of patients, visitors and co-workers and responds promptly to verbal and/or written instructions. 2. Takes, records, and reports patient's vital signs which include blood pressure, temperature, respiration, and/or pulse on a scheduled basis; weighs patient and records data; observes patient condition for signs/symptoms consistent with illness; reports observations about patient condition to nurse. 3. Bathes, dresses, and assists patients in their daily, personal hygiene care; responds to patient call-lights, as needed; changes bed linens, and keeps patients' room supplies replenished. 4. Performs duties associated with basic patient care, such as picking-up blood, delivering specimen to laboratory, performing minor housekeeping and escorting patients when assigned by nursing staff. 5. Initiates C. P. R. procedure as needed for patient care and safety. 6. Applies aseptic technique when carrying out patient care procedures or following unit protocols that require sterile conditions. 7. Performs treatments such as applying external urinary catheters, giving enemas, testing urine for presence of Glucose and Acetone, testing stool for occult blood, finger sticks etc. 8. Attends all mandatory hospital in-services including CPR training. The successful candidate will be a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) with at least one year of CNA experience. ** NA Program A requires a minimum commitment of 36 hours/month, with a one weekend shift requirement (no holiday requirement). We offer a competitive rate of pay, with shift differential - will discuss rates during interview. EOE
