Assistant Director, LGBTQ Resource Center - Division of Student Affairs

Georgetown University's LGBTQ Resource Center, serving lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, and questioning individuals, just completed its first decade on campus, and has a deep and layered history as the first institutionally funded Center of its kind at a Catholic/Jesuit institution in the country. We have sought to build on the rich interfaith and intellectual engagements of Georgetown to create a Center that will speak to all of us in all of our rich diversity.

The Center has gained national prominence and visibility for its work, and the Assistant Director position has capacity for great professional development opportunities, including working with the Tagliabue Initiative for LGBTQ Life, a major endowed program, and other academic programs of the Center.

The Assistant Director provides leadership in the Center for students (both undergraduate and graduate) in order to enhance their learning and to promote greater understanding, knowledge, and inclusivity at Georgetown University regarding LGBTQ issues. S/he provides leadership and initiative in developing and implementing programs, year-long curricular and academic initiatives for student leadership growth and development, and support to the Director for a broad array of services, programs, and resources to students and the campus community on LGBTQ-related issues. Reporting to the Center's Director and Special Assistant to the Vice President, the Assistant Director has duties that include but are not limited to:

Leadership Development

  • Advises student groups, and develops a range of programs for OUTober and Pride months.
  • Creates and implements year-long, small leadership development programs that involve delivering sustained intensive workshops; works with students individually and in small groups, such as Gatherings and Queer Masculinities.
  • Creates and implements organizational and group dynamics development for all student groups, such as GUPride, and Queer People of Color.
  • Creates and implements facilitator trainings and development for IGNITE peer education leaders and programs; and develops, implements, and provides workshops and trainings that will develop participants' skills in social justice, conflict resolution, and critical dialogue skills.
  • Administers the Centers student presence at key national conferences - develops student papers and presentations, and manages administrative logistics.
  • Provides training and guidance to student leaders on programming, leadership training, and organizational development.
  • Works with students on concerns related to issues of oppression, personal/interpersonal/group issues, academic concerns, career interests, and identity.
  • Creates and fosters cross-cultural partnerships and collaborations among a broad range of campus student groups to work on issues related to sexual orientation, gender identity, and gender expression.

Education and Outreach

  • Provides broad support for all educational programming of the Center, such our signature programs - OUTober (LGBTQ History Month), Lavender graduation, Speaker series -and other academic partnership programs.
  • Works with Director to offer yearly overnight Retreat, Journeys for 30 students; and develops curriculum and trainings as needed.
  • Assists Director in providing trainings, workshops, and facilitated discussions on LGBTQ issues as requested across various campus divisions for student, faculty and staff.
  • Works with the Director in developing assessment tools to align with divisional strategic plan.

Campus-wide Partnerships

  • Collaborates and partners with other offices within the Division and across campus during Orientation and Pre-Orientation programs; and participates as staff in our work with Women's Center, the Center for Multicultural Equity & Access (CMEA), the Academic Resource Center (ARC), and others in key diversity programs.
  • Serves on appropriate university-wide committees about multicultural and diversity education.
  • Establishes and maintains collaborative and collegial working relationships with various departments.


  • Selects, trains, and supervises student staff.
  • Creates, implements and summarizes assessments and evaluations as needed.
  • Manages operational budget for programs, and handles programmatic spending in a fiscally responsible manner.
  • Oversees administrative logistics, such as space reservations and supply orders.
  • Develops publicity and social media materials in conjunction with student workers.


  • Master's degree in higher education, social work, counseling, or related fields
  • 3 to 5 years of work experience beyond Master's in Student Affairs, Academic Affairs or related higher education fields
  • Strong collaboration skills
  • Willingness to work independently, as well as to check-in as appropriate
  • Proficiency in website management, social media, and other routine administrative software and tools
  • Experience in group facilitation and diversity training
