Job Type: Full-Time Location: 2100 Washington Blvd., Arlington, (Sequoia Plaza) *ART Bus Accessible*, Virginia       The salary range above covers the Mental Health Therapist II position for a candidate who is hired without the appropriate Virginia clinical licensure. The salary range for Mental Health Therapist II (Licensed) is $61,609.60 - $94,078.40.

This is a two-year limited term position with the potential of renewal at the end of the period.

The Community Support Team in the Behavioral Healthcare Division is hiring an experienced Mental Health Therapist/Case Manager to meet the needs of seriously mentally ill young adults (ages 18-24) who are transitioning out of adolescent mental health services into the adult mental health service system. This employee is part of a unique and specialized Youth Transition Team of therapists/case managers, psychiatrists, nurses, residential support staff, and vocational specialists who provide and arrange clinical and wrap around services. This Therapist/Case Manager will also support the needs of clients with serious mental illness and co-occurring intellectual and developmental disability services (IDD/DD). Direct services are provided as both office-based and in the community with some travel required. The population served is culturally and ethnically diverse.

Duties include:
  • Meeting with young adults and their support network to perform comprehensive assessments including crisis intervention;
  • Developing treatment plans and making service recommendations;
  • Engaging and supporting client families in service plan development;
  • Providing evidence-based individual and group psychotherapy services;
  • Collaborating with developmental disability service providers on treatment plans and case management; and
  • Completing clinical and administrative electronic documentation of services.

 Selection Criteria: Minimum:
  • A Master's degree in a clinical discipline such as Counseling, Psychiatric Social Work, Art Therapy Psychology, Psychiatric Nursing, or other directly related discipline which required a clinical practicum prior to graduation involving diagnostic and treatment services;
  • Two years of full-time post Master's Degree clinical experience providing clinical therapy and other mental health services, which included the application of intake and assessment, diagnostic and treatment services and
  • Meets the criteria of a Qualified Mental Health Professional- Adult (QMHP-A) per the Virginia Board of Counseling regulations within 60 days of hire.

Substitution: Directly related higher level clinical degree may substitute for the Master's Degree education requirement and one year of experience. In the case of this substitution, qualifying work experience must have been gained after the acquisition of the directly related higher level clinical degree.

Desirables: Preference may be given to candidates with the following background and/or experience:
  • Virginia licensure as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, Licensed Professional Counselor, Licensed Clinical Psychologist or Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist;
  • Working with IDD/DD populations; and/or
  • Providing case management services to young adults.

 Special Requirements: Applicant must possess, or obtain by the time of appointment, a valid motor vehicle operator's license from the applicant's place of residence or the applicant must have the ability and willingness to use alternative methods of transportation to perform assigned duties and responsibilities at locations other than the primary worksite. If the applicant possesses or acquires a license, the applicant must provide or authorize Arlington County to obtain a copy of the applicant's official state/district driving record. Any offer of employment may be contingent on a favorable review of the applicant's driving record.

A pre-employment criminal records check will be conducted. It may include checks of the following: criminal record, driving record, education, professional licensure, and credit history. You may be required to sign a release authorizing the County to obtain your background information.

Must complete pre-hire federal background check and State of Virginia Central Registry check.
 Additional Information: Work hours:40 hours per week, schedule will vary between 8:00 am and 5:00 p.m. with some evening hours as needed.
