Air Force Magazine, the official journal of the Air Force Association, is looking for an energetic, motivated digital editor to work full-time in the magazine’s Arlington, Va., office.
The magazine is one of the world’s foremost aerospace and defense publications, serving as the authoritative source on Air Force and airpower issues, including operations, organization, people, technology, history, strategy, and budgets. AFA is a private, 501C(3) nonprofit and is not part of the Air Force.
The successful candidate will work closely with the news editor to web edit and post content to airforcemag.com and to maintain and monitor its content management system, including regularly interacting with the site’s webmaster on technical problems and improvements. The digital editor will play a key role in ongoing website upgrades, and will be responsible for researching and helping to execute new initiatives that meet evolving industry standards. This includes styling stories and art to best engage readers, working with writers and editors to institute best SEO practices, and regularly tracking and analyzing site performance using Google Analytics and other tracking tools.
The digital editor also will manage Air Force Magazine’s social media products, including Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, and Reddit.
Applicants must have a minimum of two years related experience. Knowledge of the Air Force, and content management systems such as SharePoint, Adobe AEM, and WordPress are a plus.
Candidates will have an opportunity to report and write for the Daily Report—a daily email blast that is widely read by many senior military and industry leaders—and for the print magazine. The ideal candidate is a self-starter who can produce timely, effective content with a commitment to quality and accuracy, who is also comfortable working with a team and able to meet both daily and monthly deadlines.
