Description

The purpose of this position is to provide professional expertise on speech-language pathology and audiology practice issues as they impact the work of ASHA's Continuing Education Program; evaluate applications and approve new CE providers; approve Provider's CE administrator changes; manage appeal adjudication on behalf of the Continuing Education Board (CEB); evaluate advertisements, CE courses and products against CEB requirements; respond to inquiries about CE requirements, policies, and procedures; research, interpret, and maintain current information about state/national regulatory agencies' CE requirements; and, lead and participate on project and process improvement teams.

Responsibilities

  • Provide expert internal and external consultation on state of the art practice and policy in speech-language pathology and audiology to support decision-making and enhance continuing education policies, course development and delivery, and development of new programs.
  • Evaluate potential providers' applications and eligibility for CEB approval, ensure applicants meet CEB requirements including evaluating the content and learning outcomes of CE courses to ensure they pertain to the scope of practice of the professions of speech-language pathology and audiology; and approve CE providers on behalf of the CEB. Evaluate CE administrator qualifications and approve their appointment on behalf of the CEB.
  • Evaluate appeals against precedents and provider history; rule on appeals on behalf of the CEB; and manage all due process related to appeals.
  • Evaluate providers' advertisements, courses, and products against CEB policies and approve on behalf of CEB.
  • Research, interpret, maintain, and ensure accuracy and currency of information about CE requirements of state/national regulatory agencies. Prepare responses to proposed regulatory changes.
  • Prepare technically complex responses to inquiries from members, providers, state regulatory agencies, and other CE accreditation agencies about ASHA's CEB requirements, policies, and procedures.
  • Serve as a project manager and team leader for CE team projects and CEB projects.
  • Represent ASHA CE at state, national, and regulatory meetings.

Qualifications

Knowledge Typically Acquired Through

  • Graduate degree in speech-language pathology or audiology
  • Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC) from ASHA
  • Three to five years' experience and knowledge of communication development and disorder
  • Experience with the accreditation of health professions education and continuing education standards; adult learning, continuing professional education, program planning/management, planning/teaching/training adults or students in speech-language pathology and/or audiology
  • Scope and Depth of Technical Skills/Knowledge
  • Research and interpret regulatory statutes and policies
  • Develop and write technically complex documents
  • Collect, interpret, and report data
  • Manage projects, and quality and process improvements effort
  • Effectively and efficiently use Microsoft Office products and relational databases

  • Organize and prioritize complex workloads and effectively manage multiple complex projects at various stages of their implementation with attention to detail and deadlines
  • Problem-solve independently and pro-actively

  • Deal discreetly with confidential information
  • Write and present information effectively including presentations to groups
