Job Description Brown Advisory is currently seeking a professional, energetic and detail oriented individual to fill the Staff Accountant Compensation and Financial Reporting position within our Baltimore office location with primary responsibility for the day to day recording and review of financial transactions specific to compensation and equity related accruals and expenses. This individual is responsible for preparing monthly journal entries and account reconciliations, performing variance analysis and preparing monthly internal financial reporting for senior leadership specific to compensation related line items. You will regularly interact with team members within and outside the accounting team, providing high levels of customer service. You have an ability to communicate directly, concisely and with a balanced tone, on paper and verbally, formally and informally. The ideal candidate must have a strong accounting background and be comfortable and confident with navigating complex equity plans, including LTIPS, RSUs, stock options etc. They must also have outstanding communication and writing skills, be attentive to details, and be able to prioritize and manage multiple tasks simultaneously while working with multiple teams, including local and international teams. The candidate will develop strong working relationships with cross-functional partners and various levels of management The primary duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to: Prepare monthly and quarterly journal entries and account reconciliations specific to various compensation-related activity. Including but not limited to: Accounting for Company equity transactions, including stock-based compensation expense, and ESPP accounting; Accounting for deferred compensation, payroll-related journal entries, monthly incentive accruals, healthcare reserves and other employee-related benefits. Support external reporting needs by preparing the Statement of Shareholders Equity, equity footnote disclosures, and assisting with financial reporting. Calculate basic and diluted earnings-per-share. Perform valuations of employee option grants and employee stock purchase program based on the Black-Scholes model. Prepare monthly and quarterly financial reporting for senior management specific to compensation. Research and document accounting issues (US GAAP and IFRS) that may arise due the release of new authoritative pronouncements, including stock based compensation accounting Assist with year-end financial statement audits and other regulatory examination requests. Liaise with in-house equity, benefits and payroll teams in order to build a solid understanding of key benefit programs including option and equity issuance and nonqualified deferred compensation plans. Perform analysis to determine trends, estimates, and significant changes to general ledger accounts specific to compensation. Update job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications; maintaining personal networks; participating in professional organizations. Maintain working knowledge of new accounting pronouncements affecting equity and compensation. Perform ad hoc projects and accounting analysis. Desired Qualifications Two or more years of accounting or financial industry related experience, public accounting experience a plus. Bachelor s degree required in Accounting, Finance or related course of study. CPA License or candidate preferred but not required. Ability to comprehend, interpret and apply accounting principles. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage well through ambiguity and complexity Detail-oriented self-starter comfortable working independently and managing multiple projects under tight deadlines Strong analytical, problem solving, research, verbal and written communication skills Execution-focused, with the ability to take individual responsibility for delivering quality work in a timely manner Maintains colleague confidence by keeping compensation information confidential. Excellent computer skills, particularly in navigating detailed system-generated source reports, downloading and manipulating data, and Excel.
