Sentara Martha Jefferson Hospital is hiring a full time Special Projects Director for the Martha Jefferson Hospital Foundation.

Position Overview

  • Strategic execution and management of a comprehensive annual giving program and associated donor relations.
  • Coordinating a matrix of communication and solicitation strategies involving email, direct mail, phone/mail, personal visitation, grateful patient engagement, staff giving and volunteer engagement, all focused on shaping a sustainable tradition of annual support.
  • Fostering the growth of best practices in the areas of data management and donor relations as related to annual giving and the Foundation/Hospital as a whole. The director has a keen appreciation for the foundation of annual giving as the enabling component of successful major and legacy giving programs.
  • Providing strategic direction and long/short range planning in the context of growing the annual giving program while supporting the greater development and campaign goals of the Foundation.
  • Ensuring that the Foundation/Hospital is a leader among peers as measured externally in terms of total dollars, percentage participation, consistency of giving and average gift size and internally in terms of clean data, ease of access to data and timely donor stewardship.
Foundation Overview
The Martha Jefferson Hospital Foundation was established in 2002 with the mission to develop resources through philanthropy to meet the needs and initiatives of Sentara Martha Jefferson Hospital. The Foundation has helped to raise over $80 million for the Hospital and its priorities and functions under the following set up principles:
  • Private, community support is essential for the Foundation and Hospital to help meet its mission through quality medical care and treatment, its commitment to excellence through personal service and the Caring Tradition and its objective of improving community health.

The Director directs foundation and corporate philanthropic efforts in support of established special events and other major gift opportunities, and develops and manages resource development programs intended to attract and retain new donors and sustain and increase their annual giving through a pipeline of opportunities, including grateful patient opportunities
