Assistant Director of Undergraduate Admissions

The George Mason University Office of Admissions is conducting a search for a self-motivated, results-oriented individual for the Assistant Director of Undergraduate Admissions. Responsibilities: The Assistant Director will actively recruit new freshmen and transfer students to George Mason University. The incumbent will: * Plan and execute recruitment activities, and maintain active communication with prospective students including freshman, transfer and non-degree students; * Manage and lead the visit team and campus visit experience, including tour guides, Welcome Team staff and other professional staff members; * Review applicant files and make appropriate admission decisions; * Participate in day-to-day operational activities of the Admissions office, including but not limited to Counselor of the Day and Informational Officer of the Day duties; and * Additional responsibilities may include serving as a liaison for special admission programs and other high profile recruits.

Required Qualifications: * Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience; * Demonstrated experience managing professional staff members; * Superior communication skills, including demonstrated ability to communicate with and facilitate collaboration across culturally and professionally diverse populations; * Ability to be a quick learner of office/university procedures, and use learned procedures to help teach and train student workers and new counseling staff members; * Knowledge of admissions programs, academic programs, and project management experience; * Demonstrated significant admissions and planning experience in recruiting diverse populations, especially underrepresented groups and first generation college students is required; * Strong analytical skills; * Willingness to travel extensively; * Availability for evening and weekend work; * Detail-oriented; * Ability to handle sensitive and/or confidential information and situations; * Ability to prioritize tasks in a hectic, deadline-driven environment often working on multiple tasks concurrently; * Comfortable with public speaking in large and small group situations; * Computer literacy and willingness to learn new software applications; * Proven ability to work positively as a team member; * Demonstrated customer service experience and superior customer service philosophy; and * Valid driver’s license.

Preferred Qualifications: * Previous experience with the campus visit experience * Previous experience with data analysis; * Previous experience with Ellucian Banner software; * Previous experience with Salesforce CRM; * Prior admissions or related experience; and * Bilingual.

Some travel and work on evenings and weekends will be required. Employment offer is contingent on meeting eligibility requirements for operating state-owned vehicles per Policy 1411: Vehicle Use Procedures. (
