Responsibilities NSA Overview The professionals at the National Security Agency (NSA) have one common goal: to protect our nation. The mission requires a strong offense and a steadfast defense. The offense collects, processes and disseminates intelligence information derived from foreign signals for intelligence and counterintelligence purposes. The defense prevents adversaries from gaining access to sensitive of classified national security information. Financial Counselors support the overall mission and employees of the NSA by helping them improve their financial capabilities and well-being through individual coaching, education and by providing relevant external resources. Description of Position: As a Financial Counselor/Coach, your responsibilities will include: - Coaching and educating employees in sound financial principles to help them improve their overall financial well-being. This may include helping them overcome indebtedness, create a budget, set realistic financial goals, repair credit, etc. - Maintaining contact with employees to periodically review their progress and provide additional guidance and motivation as needed. - Briefing organizations and managers on the benefits of financial counseling/coaching and providing evidence as to why it would be beneficial to their employees. - Responding to detailed questions related to personal finance via various communications methods (email, phone, internal social media, articles, etc.). - Staying up-to-date on topics specifically related to government employees and military members (eg public service loan forgiveness, government benefits, etc.) and providing this research to employees through various communication methods. - Maintaining detailed information on employee issues and concerns to help guide the direction of the financial counseling/coaching department. - Attending periodic team meetings to provide feedback to other financial counselors/coaches to help improve the overall effectiveness of the financial counseling/coaching department. Skills The ideal candidate is someone with a desire for continual learning and who possesses strong communication (oral and written), problem-solving, analytic, interpersonal skills, and is: - open-minded - an active listener - empathetic - flexible - customer service oriented - able to work effectively (independently and/or within teams) in a collaborative environment - able to manage multiple tasks with competing timelines and deliverables - able to speak in front of large groups in an effective and engaging manner Knowledge and experience in the following is required: 1. Obtained, or will obtain before hire, one or more of the following certifications: AFC, CFP, or ChFC. 2. Experience providing impartial counseling and/or coaching services to adults. 3. Knowledge of the financial industry to include budgeting, credit, debt management, employee benefits, saving, etc. Qualifications Salary Range: $56,233 - $73,105 (Entry/Developmental) *The qualifications listed are the minimum acceptable to be considered for the position. Salary offers are based on candidates' education level and years of experience relevant to the position and also take into account information provided by the hiring manager/organization regarding the work level for the position. Entry is with a Bachelor's degree and no experience. Degree in Business related field (eg, Finance, Economics, Accounting, and Business Administration) is preferred, but a degree in any field is acceptable. Experience in financial coaching, basic principles of personal finance, or in financial services (eg, credit union and bank) is desired. Accredited financial counselor by the Association for Financial Counselor Planning and Education (AFCPE), Certified Financial Planner (CFP), and/or Chartered Financial Consultant (ChFC) is required. Salary Range: $68,036 - $106,012 (Full Performance) *The qualifications listed are the minimum acceptable to be considered for the position. Salary offers are based on candidates' education level and years of experience relevant to the position and also take into account information provided by the hiring manager/organization regarding the work level for the position. Entry is with a Bachelor's degree plus 3 years of relevant experience, or a Master's degree plus 1 year of relevant experience, or a Doctoral degree and no experience. Degree in Business related field (eg, Finance, Economics, Accounting, and Business Administration) is preferred, but a degree in any field is acceptable. Relevant experience must be in financial coaching, basic principles of personal finance, or in financial services (eg, credit union and bank). Accredited financial counselor by the Association for Financial Counselor Planning and Education (AFCPE), Certified Financial Planner (CFP), and/or Chartered Financial Consultant (ChFC) is required. Salary Range: $96,970 - $126,062 (Senior) *The qualifications listed are the minimum acceptable to be considered for the position. Salary offers are based on candidates' education level and years of experience relevant to the position and also take into account information provided by the hiring manager/organization regarding the work level for the position. Entry is with a Bachelor's degree plus 6 years of relevant experience or a Master's degree plus 4 years of relevant experience, or a Doctoral degree plus 2 years of relevant experience. Degree in Business related field (eg, Finance, Economics, Accounting, and Business Administration) is preferred, but a degree in any field is acceptable. Relevant experience must be in financial coaching, basic principles of personal finance, or in financial services (eg, credit union and bank).
