Printing and Reprographics Specialist (Bindery area)

The United States Senate Sergeant at Arms is seeking a qualified Printing and Reprographics Specialist within the Bindery section of Printing, Graphics and Direct Mail.  The U.S. Senate is looking for candidates who seek the opportunity to work in a challenging Printing, Bindery, and Mailing environment and can demonstrate continual progression in offset and digital printing and bindery services. Work includes customizing and producing products, such as, Newsletters, Constituent Mailings & Town Meeting Notices, as well as generating booklets, brochures, pamphlets and magazines, while performing routine maintenance on equipment to ensure quality and accuracy. Regular duties will include assignments within the area of bindery production, however assignments may also include working within other areas of the Printing, Bindery, and Mailing operations, to ensure quality and deadlines are met. The hours of work are 12:30 p.m. – 9:30 p.m. in the Landover Print facility.

Required bindery Skills:

  • The applicant should have an in-depth offset bindery understanding to prioritize production assignments.
  • A basic understanding of In-plant Offset and large format bindery processes, to include, but not limited to, operating Industrial Cutters and Shredder, as well as Folding and Book-Making equipment.
  • Knowledge of a Print Management Information System, to track day-to-day production, as well as maintaining and inventorying supplies within the bindery area.
  • Proficient operator producing Foil Stamp, Die-Cut, and Hologram products on the press equipment.
  • Capable of performing extensive maintenance on small and large offset bindery equipment.
  • Capable of performing quality assurances checks on printed and bound products.   
  • Strong oral and written communication skills with a keen focus on active listening and interpreting customer, and production requests/instructions.
  • The ability to work effectively as a member of a team and follow directions under a lead worker and supervisor.
  • Work independently and be an effective team member.
  • Analytical and mechanical skills, with the ability to learn new production equipment quickly.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, including; Windows 2013 and/or 2016.
