The American Chemistry Council (ACC), a national trade association representing the world’s leading chemical and plastics manufacturers, currently has an opportunity for an Executive Assistant for its Federal Affairs Department located in Washington, D.C.  ACC represents its members on public policy issues; coordinates the industry’s research and testing programs; and administers Responsible Care®, the industry’s environment, health, safety and security performance improvement initiative. 

The position is responsible for supporting the Federal Affairs division, including conducting research, maintaining electronic and paper-based files, scheduling appointments, tracking budgets, providing computer and power point assistance, as needed, responding to inquiries, preparing documents, as well as assisting with minutes and meeting preparation.  The position reports directly to the Vice President, Federal Affairs.

The position will also have responsibility coordinating and scheduling office appointments, meetings and conferences as well as maintaining appointment calendars; composing and drafting various correspondences (e.g., letters, memoranda and reports) for review and signature using a variety of computer applications; responding to inquiries from staff, members as well as the general public and providing answers/materials, as needed; coordinating travel arrangements for department staff, including air/ground transportation, accommodations, coordination of meetings, expense reports and communications; and coordinating and maintaining department budget, including monitoring contracts, completing expense reports and invoices for payment, tracking budget items, as appropriate, and interfacing with Finance and Accounting.

Required qualifications include Associates’ degree or equivalent experience; at least six years of prior work-related experience as well as in-depth knowledge of general office protocols, practices and procedures and knowledge of Microsoft Office (e.g., word, excel, power point) and internet research skills. Strong written and oral communications skills, including grammar, spelling and punctuation, the ability to handle sensitive and confidential information, work independently and manage multiple projects, prioritize issues, projects, tasks and information and experience with document tracking, filing, and record keeping are a must. A college degree is preferred.
