ABOUT : Washington School of Psychiatry (WSP), founded in 1936 in Washington, DC, is a renowned not-for-profit mental health organization with several foci: * Training and Education: accredited provider of postgraduate professional education training programs and study groups for mental health professionals * Treatment: psychodynamic and interpersonal psychotherapy and other mental health services for individuals, families, and groups through the Eugene Meyer Treatment Center * Community Outreach and Engagement: conferences, workshops, institutes, and lectures open to the wider community * Thought Leader: diverse faculty and subject matter; WSP sponsors and publishes research findings through its internationally renowned journal, Psychiatry: Interpersonal and Biological Processes WSP serves in a tradition of open inquiry and inclusiveness which promotes respect for the uniqueness of every individual. Executive Director Reporting to the Board of Directors, the Executive Director (ED), a visionary and innovative leader, will have overall strategic and operational responsibility for WSP staff, programs, expansion, and execution of its mission. She or he will develop a deep knowledge of the field, core programs, operations, and business plans. He or she will assess and evaluate strategies and decide how the organization will differentiate itself from other like-minded organizations, and will oversee and lead fundraising events, business and donor development, and create and strengthen alliances and partnerships to further the mission. Responsibilities Leadership & Management: * Serve as a strong advocate and spokesperson for WSP and its mission to the community and key stakeholders, leading its strategic plan. * Actively engage with and energize WSP staff, school faculty, membership, event committees, and funders. * Ensure ongoing programmatic excellence, rigorous program evaluation, and consistent quality of finance and administration, fundraising, communications, and systems; recommend timelines and resources needed to achieve the strategic goals. * Provide timely and accurate information to the Board of internal organization matters, including budget, staffing, funding, and program success and priorities. * Participate in securing and supporting a strong Board of Directors; serve as ex-officio of each committee; seek and build board involvement with strategic direction * Ensure effective systems to track scaling progress, and regularly evaluate program components, to measure successes that can be effectively communicated to the board, funders, and other constituents. * Lead, coach, develop, and retain a small high-performance management team and support staff * Prepare job descriptions and yearly performance evaluations for all management and support staff. Fundraising & Communications: * Accountable for fundraising financial objectives set by the Board * Expand revenue-generating and fundraising activities to support program operations. * Build and maintain excellent and growth-oriented relationships with board members, staff, faculty, members, new partners, the local community, and other donors and prospects. * Actively identify and cultivate corporate, individual, and foundation sponsors. * Strengthen the WSP brand by developing all aspects of communications-from web presence to external relationships. * Be an external presence that publishes and communicates program activities and results. * Use external presence and relationships to garner new opportunities. * Cultivate excellent relationships with local media; provide oversight for WSP presence in social media. * Reach out to the community to present WSP's vision and services through public presentations and by attending relevant business events, conferences, and gatherings. * Sponsor and/or co-sponsor special events designed to promote WSP's mission or other like-minded missions. Finance & Administration: * Manage day-to-day fiscal operations. * Budget and allocate resources appropriately and hold him or herself accountable for the financial health of the organization. * Ensure that WSP is in compliance with relevant state and federal laws, regulations and with standard accounting procedures. * Ensure WSP's financial health by developing and maintaining budget and financial management systems, including preparation of budgets and oversight of financial systems and controls * Work closely with the Board to assess and update the current and long range fiscal plan. Qualifications The ED will be thoroughly committed to WSP's mission. All candidates should have proven leadership, coaching, relationship management, and fundraising experience. The ideal candidate will be a highly effective communicator, detail-oriented, and possess a firm understanding of the mental health and post-graduate training and education field. He or she will be passionate about what WSP is trying to achieve and well versed in social impact for content initiatives.
