The Office of the Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) provides operations support services and business solutions to the community of 10,000 House Members, Officers and staff. The CAO organization comprises more than 650 technical and administrative staff working in a variety of areas, including information technology, finance, budget management, human resources, payroll, child care, food and vending, procurement, logistics and administrative counsel. The Communications Specialist will work on a variety of communications projects. The incumbent will work closely with the Communications Director and Communications Manager to develop and maintain web content geared toward Members of the US House of Representatives, their staff, and external audiences. There will be a focus on the development, review, and maintenance of intranet content. Other projects may include social media campaigns; marketing and awareness campaigns; and collaboration on the design of visual communications products including elements for the web, print, newsletters, and social media. The successful candidate will partner closely with internal and external stakeholders, assemble requirements, and work creatively to drive to results. S/he must be able to utilize their excellent writing and design skills to present technical information in an engaging way. The successful candidate will be organized and detail oriented to track and achieve consistency in communications across all platforms including intranets, forms, customer service platforms, emails, and more. Finally, all communications staff must have strong collaborative skills to work with others to create high-quality graphic content to complement communications and marketing campaigns for targeted audiences. Major Duties: 1) Collaborate with the Communications Manager and Web Systems team to develop a content management strategy for the internal House websites. 2) Partner with internal subject matter experts to draft, edit, and maintain content for the House-wide intranet and CAO intranet, ensuring all content is current, accurate, consistent, easy to understand, and easily accessible to the House community. 3) Create content and write in a clear and concise manner on a wide range of topics, including financial services, information security, information technology, and more. This will include writing for intranet and external websites and a variety of media. 4) Provide consultative services to internal departments regarding communications and marketing efforts around their business units to include email campaigns, social media posts, and graphic design ideas. 5) Track all communications for adherence to CAO brand standards and work with stakeholders to bring proposed and existing communications into compliance where necessary. 6) Develop multimedia components for the CAO's social media accounts. Create and post engaging content geared toward House staff. Develop social media campaigns and track analytics. 7) Initiate and direct meetings to better define customer goals, suggest enhancements to initial customer requests to create efficiencies, and maximize impact and budget. 8) Coordinate web and multimedia content creation including: production schedule, tracking, input for creative activities of in-house and outside organizations, ensuring that quality guidelines are met, and projects are completed on time. 9) Establish and maintain policies and procedures, and update as necessary. 10) Perform other duties as assigned. BS/BA degree in Business, Communications, Advertising, Marketing, or equivalent combination of education & experience. Minimum 3+ years of experience in a marketing/communications role on Capitol Hill, with an internet company, advertising agency, or within a marketing communications department. Journalism experience with print, online or broadcast/cable company is helpful. Proven ability to develop and implement effective marketing and advertising multimedia. Ability to independently create appropriate content and write in a clear and concise manner on a broad range of technical and non-technical topics to a variety of audiences. Must have solid understanding of current web trends and business practices. Outstanding communications skills, both verbal & written; must have demonstrated proficiency in creating concise copy. Strong project management, vendor relations, and time management skills with the ability to work well under pressure in a fast-paced environment. Proficiency in Microsoft office suite, including Word and PowerPoint. Experience with Drupal or another content management system.
