Seeking to hire multiple full-time Social Services Specialist II positions to serve the Children, Youth and Families division in offices located in Annandale, Reston, Alexandria, and Fairfax.

Performs the full range of journey-level professional social casework services on a variety of social work cases; performs clinical assessment of social, health, emotional, and economic needs of clients in order to implement a plan of service; makes appropriate referrals; provides consultation; tracks the progress of clients through their service plans; and performs related work as required.

Children, Youth and Families (CYF) programs and services promote the safety, permanency, and well-being of children and families. CYF services are designed to protect children from harm, prevent child abuse and neglect, support families and help them remain together safely for the long-term emotional and physical health of children. Job openings may be in any of the following programs:

Child Protective Services (CPS) - Program purpose: to respond to reports of alleged child abuse and neglect; identify abused and neglected children; to provide services to prevent further abuse and neglect; and to strengthen families by enhancing parental capacity to nurture their children in a safe environment.

Protection and Preservation Services (PPS) - Program purpose: to preserve families and prevent the occurrence and/or reoccurrence of child abuse and neglect. This is accomplished through the provision of case management by enhancing families' ability to provide safe, stable and nurturing environments for their children.

Foster Care and Adoption (FC&A) - Program purpose: to ensure safety, well-being and permanence for children who have been physically and legally removed from their caregivers due to abuse and neglect or through other court intervention. Services are provided to the family to address the concerns that led to the removal of their children. Foster Care is a short term intervention until permanency can be achieved.

Foster Care and Adoption Resource and Support (FC&A R&S) - Program purpose: for children to safely achieve permanency either through parental reunification, placement with relative or adoption by a relative/non-relative.

Child Abuse and Neglect Prevention Services (Prevention) - Program purpose: to provide community-based prevention and early intervention services to strengthen families, promote healthy family functioning and encourage families to become self-reliant.

Family Engagement Program (FEP) - Program purpose: to ensure family members are engaged in practices that support decision making which promotes the safety, wellbeing and permanency of their children.

Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a bachelor's degree, plus two years of professional social work experience. A master's degree in a related field may be substituted for one year of the required experience.

Valid driver's license.

Master's degree in social work (MSW) or a related human services degree. Two or more years of professional-level social work experience, to include one or more years of experience in child welfare. Ability to participate and attend home visits, school visits, and court hearings. Bilingual in English and Spanish

The appointee to the position must satisfactorily complete a criminal background check, Child Protective Services Registry check, and driving record check to the satisfaction of the employer. Driver's license or ability to efficiently access other means of transportation in order to visit clients in their homes and to meet with community service providers. Some positions may require oral and written bilingual competency in English and a second language. Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.

Sufficiently mobile to travel outside the office for client contact, court appearances, community events, and to conduct family assessments and investigations of allegations of child abuse and neglect. Ability to use automated technology. Ability to operate a motor vehicle. All duties performed with or without reasonable accommodations.

All applicants selected from this solicitation will start on October 15, 2018 and must successfully complete the county's 8-week Child Welfare Institute program prior to joining their assigned unit.
