Montgomery College, Office of Professional Development (ELITE), located in Takoma Park/Silver Spring, MD, has need for a full-time Instructional Designer, position #S03820, Grade 29. This is a non-bargaining, exempt position. The normal work schedule is Monday - Friday 8:30 am - 5:00 pm; may include some weekend and evening hours.

Job Summary: ELITE is a faculty and staff professional development center. Its mission is to enhance student learning by encouraging faculty innovation and continual improvement in instruction. Position will work with faculty on course design, conduct workshops, and provide leadership in the design of professional development activities.Job Description

Duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Key Responsibility 1: Offer professional development for Montgomery College faculty

  • Design, develop, and deliver professional development opportunities and instructional materials. Continually evaluate and update as needed.
  • Work collaboratively in project teams to plan and implement workshops, conferences, events, and other initiatives.
  • Contribute to publications such as the ELITE newsletter, website, blog or college publications.

Key Responsibility 2: Provide instructional design expertise in support of teaching and learning

  • Build relationships with faculty through outreach and serve as a point of contact for faculty with instructional design questions.
  • Consult and collaborate with faculty or departments to assess teaching and learning needs; research educational best practices, instructional resources, and/or instructional technologies; and generate instructional and/or technological solutions.
  • Apply best practices of instructional design and adult learning theory.
  • Maintain currency in best practices in higher education teaching and learning and/or technology.

Key Responsibility 3: Provide instructional design expertise in support of college-wide initiatives

  •  Collaborate with faculty and staff in support of college-wide initiatives.
  •  Organize resources and tools to support implementation of college-wide initiatives.
  • Participate in committees as a representative of ELITE.

Required Qualifications:

  • Master Degree in curriculum development, instructional design, adult education, human resources development, or a relevant field.
  • Minimum of five years experience in learning and/or organizational development in higher education, designing and developing learning objectives and e-learning environments and evaluation and assessment techniques.
  • Thorough knowledge of instructional design theory, principles and practices.
  • Thorough knowledge of adult learning theory and principles and of designing, developing, delivering, and evaluating educational programs; of curriculum and program development; of project management and research principles; of training standards and techniques; of instructional technologies including online course design and course management systems.
  • Skill in oral and written communication including interpersonal relations.
  • Skill in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Skill in problem-solving, needs assessment, organization and multitasking.
  • Skill in facilitating and presenting instructional materials.
  • Ability to anticipate needs, manage conflict; to work with diverse populations with diverse needs; building coalitions; and secure resources.
  • Eligible applicants must currently be authorized to work in the United States and not require employer visa sponsorship.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working in higher educational institution.
