Job Description: Sentara RMH Medical Center in Harrisonburg, Virginia is hiring a full time Outpatient Coding Educator to join our team!

Position Overview
  • Responsible for coordinating coding staff development in collaboration with HIM leadership.
  • Orients new staff to all systems and software required for coding.
  • Works with newly hired coding staff to develop coding quality and productivity competence and ensure accurate, thorough and ethical coding.
  • Reviews coding audit results to ensure consistency of feedback and identify areas in coding and documentation that need further education.
  • Serves as a coding resource for team members by providing feedback to coding questions.

Experience
Required: Coding - 4 years

Preferred: None, unless noted in the “Other” section below

License
Required: Cert Coding Specialist, Cert Professional Coder

Preferred: Reg Health Information Admin, Reg Health Information Tech

Skills
Required: Coding, Communication, Instructing

Preferred: None, unless noted in the “Other” section below

Other
Minimum 4 years experience coding complex inpatient cases or outpatient cases in an acute care setting. Associates degree preferred. Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) is required for inpatient educator. Certified Professional Coder (CPC, COC) or CCS is required for outpatient educator.
