Research Assistant, Department of Psychiatry - Georgetown University Medical Center

Georgetown University Medical Center (GUMC) is an internationally recognized academic medical center whose missions of research, teaching and patient care are carried out with a strong emphasis on community outreach and the Jesuit principle of cura personalis - care of the whole person. GUMC consists of the School of Medicine, the School of Nursing & Health Studies, Georgetown Lombardi Comprehensive Cancer Center, and Biomedical Graduate Research and Education. 

The Research Assistant supports the active development of a clinical research program that includes clinical trials measuring the effect of treatments on anxiety and depressive disorders.  S/he assists with organization of the trials, carrying out study visits, and keeping data generated from the treatment trials organized in duties that include but are not limited to:

  • Recruits, screens, and monitors patients involved in study protocols; schedules and oversees study visits, maintains records, and measures vital signs.
  • Prepares and modifies ethics committee proposal documents, organizes all study related documents and computer records, performs data entry, and assists with presentations and manuscript preparation.
  • Performs administration of psychophysiologlcal testing using electrodes placed on the skin, such as electromyography and heart rate.
  • Prepares and cleans data generated by the psychophysiological testlng.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Psychology, Neuroscience, or a related field
  • Experience in a health care, medical, or biological research project
  • Good organizational, record keeping, and interpersonal skills

Preferred qualifications

  • Experience with psychophysiology recordings
  • Contact with clinical populations in a health care setting
