Ready for an exciting challenge that will have you tapping into your honed analytical skills and your business savvy? As Business Analyst for The Washington Post's Preprints/Post Plus division, you'll provide analytical support and marketing solutions through data gathering and analysis, and the implementation and tracking of our preprint products, pricing and promotional initiatives. You'll be responsible for understanding and documenting business requirements for specific business problems; translating business requirements into functional and non-functional specifications; and verifying that solutions meet those requirements—all through research, fact-finding and skilled analysis methods. You'll also participate in special projects to study and recommend solutions to operational/financial problems affecting the department's business performance.

Responsibilities include:

  • Prepare ad hoc/scheduled analysis reports for marketing manager and analysts, sales managers and account managers, department manager, director, and vice president
  • Identify, monitor and propose ways to influence key variables that affect the department's profitability
  • Provide analytical support on all issues affecting the Preprint/Post Plus department
  • Participate in the preparation of departmental revenue/expense budgets
  • Participate in rate setting and revenue projections
  • Track actuals to estimate revenue, piece volume, share factor, projected quantity vs. quantity to produce, expense budget, P&D and P&L, Preprints P&L, Post Plus P&L, SOI P&L, and GWP Products
  • Coordinate competitive direct mail analysis
  • Participate in special projects to study and recommend solutions to operational/financial problems affecting the department's business performance
  • Work with sales floor to sell preprints
  • Manage relationships and pricing with multiple print partners
  • Champion Market Select, The Washington Post's advertising sales tool
  • Verify/process all preprint affidavits and P&D invoices
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements include:

  • Bachelor's degree with a focus on business, finance, marketing or statistics
  • 1-2+ years of advertising experience
  • Ability to quickly learn and understand the Preprints/Post Plus operations, rate structures and products
  • Ability to quickly learn and understand postal rate structures
  • Strong analytical skills, with the ability in systematic analysis/problem solving
  • Ability to establish effective working relationships with all levels management and staff
  • Ability to establish effective relationships with advertisers, agencies and other publications
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks under deadline pressure
  • Excellent verbal/written communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrated initiative in defining/undertaking work assignments with minimal supervision
  • Evidence of good judgment, creativity, inquisitiveness and perseverance in past work or educational experience
  • Excellent computer skills with experience in Windows based applications
  • Strong working knowledge of Excel
  • Ability to collect, analyze, manipulate and synthesize complex data
  • Solid presentation skills (desired)
