The City of Takoma Park seeks a Human Resources Coordinator to provide day-to-day assistance of assigned HR functions, programs and activities supporting over 200 full- and part-time employees. This is a highly demanding position and the successful candidate will be an integral part of a department led by the HR Director. This is a great opportunity for those who enjoy a career in all facets of HR. This position is not subject to membership in the AFSCME union. The annualized hiring salary range for this position is a Grade 15, Step A, or $48,264.30 to Step H, or $52,649.13. The first review of resumes will take place on July 9, 2018.

Typical Duties:

  • Ensures personnel and benefit files are maintained in good order and in compliance with federal, state and local laws
  • Enters data into multiple HR systems
  • Assists with on-boarding for all new hires
  • Assists with the coordination of annual events (including but not limited to open enrollment, holiday and retirement events, employee appreciation luncheons and activities, etc.)
  • Coordinates Workers’ Compensation claims
  • Calculates deferred compensation, police retirement and Maryland State Retirement contributions for review by HR Director
  • Supports recruiting functions including coordinating interviews and scheduling background checks
  • Creates reports on performance management statuses and updates
  • Updates and completes compliance reporting
  • Creates Personnel Action Forms (PAFs)
  • Participates in testing for all applicants and promotional processes
  • Supports all HR programming and special projects as assigned

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with the completion of a baccalaureate degree in Human Resources or other relevant field
  • Minimum of one year of Human Resources experience; or,
  • Any combination of education, training and experience which provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of the job
  • High level organizational skills
  • Strong critical thinking and problem solving skills
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality
