Research Assistant # 2, Lombardi Comprehensive Cancer Center - Georgetown University Medical Center

Georgetown Lombardi Comprehensive Cancer Center (LCCC) is to a state-of-the-art cancer center housing more than 240,000 square feet of clinic and research space. Lombardi's mission is to provide the most advanced treatments available, to train future cancer specialists, and to cure cancer in its many forms.  Lombardi is one of only 45 comprehensive cancer centers in the nation, and the only one in the Washington metropolitan area.

The Research Assistant provides a wide variety of moderately complex to complex technical support for a research lab. Reporting to the Principal Investigator, and to other lab members assigned by the PI, the Research Assistant has duties that include but are not limited to:

  • Assists in evaluating research methods, procedures, and techniques based on established objectives
  • Performs animal handling, collecting tissues, and processing
  • Performs cell culture and other lab techniques
  • Orders reagents and administers inventory supplies


  • Associate's degree - preference for Bachelor's degree
  • 1 to 2 years of experience
  • Familiarity with day-to-day assistance required in the laboratory
  • Ability to carry out the laboratory techniques such as Western blotting, PCR, and RT-PCR
  • Conversant with tissue culture techniques
  • Experience in handling rodents, maintaining breeding colonies, and collecting tissues and their processing
  • Willingness to learn
  • Availability and willingness to work during extended office hours and weekend when necessary
