Digital Initiatives Coordinator, Law Library - Georgetown University Law Center

Located in the nation's capital, and within walking distance of the U.S. Congress and the Supreme Court, Georgetown Law is recognized for the quality of scholarship, its renowned faculty, and for its exceptionally talented and diverse student body. Focused on service excellence and innovation, it is among the largest academic law libraries in the nation and includes a comprehensive collection in U.S., international, foreign, and comparative law materials.

The Digital Initiatives Coordinator is responsible for the oversight, maintenance, and advancement of digital projects and collections falling under the purview of the Digital Initiatives Department at the Georgetown University Law Library.  Through work and actions, s/he advances library goals and values as articulated in library planning documents and values statement. Reporting to the Digital Initiatives Librarian, the Digital Initiatives Coordinator has duties that include but are not limited to:

Digitization Process

  • Oversees the production digitization processes of the Georgetown Law Library.
  • Schedules staff engaging in digitization processes.
  • Administers the performance of digitization of library materials and post-processing tasks for digital images.
  • Trains personnel in application-specific software (e.g., LIMB, Scribe).
  • Performs data entry into the workflow management tool - currently a Microsoft Access database.

Coordination with Internal and External Partners

  • Acts as a contact with the Internet Archive on the quality control of digital images.
  • Uploads digital objects to Digital Georgetown.
  • Uploads digital objects to the Internet Archive.
  • Maintains data and metrics relating to digitization processes and digital lending.
  • Facilitates digital asset preservation processes, including creation of digital authentication data and transfer of files.

Metadata Maintenance

  • Facilitates the flow of metadata in digital projects, and repurpose metadata for use in digital repositories
  • Administers the transformation of metadata records to document new digital objects using existing tools.
  • Processes the ingestion of transformed metadata records both back into the Integrated Library System (ILS), as well as to digital repository systems.


  • Bachelor's degree
  • Ability to organize projects and accomplish goals
  • High level of proficiency with personal computers and software, the Internet and library-relevant information technology applications
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Ability to perform command-line tasks
  • Familiarity with digital image editing programs such as Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Bridge
  • General knowledge of how digital library collections and electronic objects are used in an academic setting
  • Knowledge of MARC, METS and Dublin Core, as well as other metadata standards appropriate for digital materials

Preferred qualifications

  • Experience working in an academic library
  • Expertise with an integrated library system
  • Familiarity with digital library collections and repositories
