Tenure-Track Assistant Professor - Political and Legal Anthropology, East Asia/Pacific Rim
The George Mason University Department of Sociology and Anthropology invites applications for a Tenure-Track Assistant Professor position for a Political and Legal anthropologist with a geographical focus on East Asia/Pacific Rim region, to begin August 2019 (teaching load is 2:2). Qualifications: The Anthropology Program seeks applicants with geographic specialization in East Asia/Pacific Rim and research interests in one or more of the following areas of political and legal anthropology: human rights, environmental protection, race and ethnicity, activism, citizenship, colonialism, inequality, populism, political identity, political conflict and reconciliation. The successful applicant will have a Ph.D. in-hand at time of application.
Candidates are expected to demonstrate promise of a productive research and publication trajectory based on original research and a record of external funding. The successful candidate will be prepared to teach an introductory cultural anthropology course, an area studies course, and courses in their areas of specialization at the undergraduate and graduate levels. Faculty in the anthropology program are expected to work closely with undergraduate majors and graduate students, providing them with opportunities for the development, completion, presentation, and publication of research projects. As the result of a recent curriculum redesign, it is expected that the amount of undergraduate research in the department will increase, and that the successful candidate will contribute to that growth.
Masons three-field anthropology program offers the B.A. and M.A. degrees. Many opportunities exist for cross- and interdisciplinary collaboration across units.
