Georgetown University's McDonough School of Business (MSB) began in 1936 as an undergraduate program within the School of Foreign Service and today is a global leader in business education, business ethics, and social responsibility.

The Role in Brief:
The Director of Development is responsible for engaging current and prospective donors in the investment cycle and requires the ability to be knowledgeable and articulate in stating the case for support, vision, and mission of the MSB and its academic priorities. First and foremost, s/he is expected to make face-to-face visits with current and prospective donors with an annual minimum goal of raising $3 million.
It is expected s/he will spend at a minimum of five days per month traveling both nationally and internationally and collaborating closely with his/her regional frontline colleagues to visit with current and prospective donors: alumni, parents, and friends.
Reporting to the Senior Director of Development for the MSB, the Director of Development has duties that include but are not limited to:
- Develops and implements new, innovative and comprehensive fundraising strategies for the MSB and specifically for, the School's Undergraduate Program
- Manages a portfolio of 100-125 prospective donors and donors as well as tracks solicitation assignments and progress.
- Develops relationships leading to gifts in the $100,000 to $5,000,000+ range.
- Implements all aspects of the fundraising plan, including strategy development and implementation, and fund-raising proposals (narratives and budgets).
- Designs and implements the planning and execution of focused cultivation and stewardship events.
- Assists with events and participate in the relevant planning and execution.
- Stays informed on current MSB initiatives and activities, and engage in the life of the school.
- Gains familiarity with regions, and is willing to travel to those areas with regularity.
- In coordination with the Undergraduate Program Office, engages and supports the MSB's Parents' Advisory Council in activities related to fund raising.
- Prioritizes prospects, prepares background information, makes volunteer assignments as appropriate, and collaborates with volunteers on assigned solicitations.
- Works closely with colleagues in MSB to align program goals with the overall fundraising goals of the business school and Georgetown.
- Engages as an active contributor to the team culture of the major gift group.
- Coordinates and collaborates with development colleagues in Georgetown's Office of Advancement.
- Interacts with volunteer leadership, prospective donors, donors, senior administrators, faculty, and staff.
- Works and acts independently performing the investment cycle while maintaining a collegial manner with fellow MSB and Office of Advancement.
- Performs the lead and critical role in developing meaningful connections with MSB partners, advocates, and potential advocates, including new and existing stakeholders and supporters.
- Engages one-on-one with supporters to ensure continued support and works closely with existing donors to move them towards stronger engagement and support through thoughtful and creative stewardship activities.
- Bachelor's degree
- At least 3 to 5 years of successful development experience
- Demonstrated success in securing gifts, preferably at an academic institution.
- A strong commitment to business education is preferred
- Proficiency in fundraising software applications
- Detail-oriented, highly professional in presentation and speech, personable, and a self-starter with excellent communication and organizational skills
- Strong written and verbal communication skill
- Ability to travel, including via air
- Valid driver's license, and the ability and willingness to drive

University Development has historically been responsible for almost three-quarters of the University's total campaign goal, including the Main Campus academic units (Georgetown College, Walsh School of Foreign Service, McDonough School of Business, Lauinger Library, Student Affairs) and the Athletics and Mission & Ministry development programs, in addition to the 1789 Scholarship Imperative, the Special Gifts program (Reunions, Parents, Students and Young Alumni) and the Regional Advancement program for Georgetown's top markets.
