    SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
    You must be able to obtain and retain a Top Secret security clearance with access to Sensitive Compartmented Information. In addition, you are subject to a Counterintelligence Polygraph examination in order to maintain access to Top Secret information. All employees are subject to a periodic examination on a random basis in order to determine continued eligibility. Refusal to take the examination may result in denial of access to Top Secret information, SAP, and/or unescorted access to SCIFs.

    Employees with SCI access and who are under NGA cognizance are required to submit a Security Financial Disclosure Report, SF-714, on an annual basis in order to determine continued eligibility. Failure to comply may negatively impact continued access to Top Secret information, Information Systems, SAP, and/or unescorted access to SCIFs.


    NGA utilizes all processes and procedures of the Defense Civilian Intelligence Personnel System (DCIPS). Non-executive NGA employees are assigned to five distinct pay bands based on the type and scope of work performed. The employee's base salary is established within their assigned pay band based on their unique qualifications. A performance pay process is conducted each year to determine a potential base pay salary increase and/or bonus. An employee's annual performance evaluation is a key factor in the performance pay process. Employees on term or temporary appointments are not eligible to apply for internal assignment opportunity notices.

    This position is a DCIPS position in the Excepted Service under 10 U.S.C. 1601.     MANDATORY QUALIFICATION CRITERIA: For this particular job, applicants must meet all competencies reflected under the Mandatory Qualification Criteria to include education (if required). Demonstrated responsibility for final approval of designs of major structures and facilities involving public safety where such compliance with State laws meets an essential need of the engineering organization to provide objective evidence to agency management and the public that the work is performed by engineers of proven competence. 2. Proven expertise of professional architectural concepts, principles and practices applicable to a full range of duties concerned with the design, layout and construction of facilities and major renovations and of related disciplines (e.g. electrical, mechanical, and civil engineering) to ensure that areas of overlapping responsibilities between technical disciplines receive proper consideration to meet project objectives. 3. Demonstrated ability to prepare government estimates for design, construction and consultant fees. 4. Ability to draw professionally with Auto CAD to prepare design and construction drawings. 5. Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing complex facility engineering-related matters in plain language to leadership, customers and mission partners. EDUCATION REQUIREMENT: A. Education: Bachelor's degree in Architecture or a related field that included 60 semester (90 quarter) hours of coursework in Architecture or related disciplines of which at least 30 semester (45 quarter) hours were in Architectural design, and 6 semester (9 quarter) hours in each of the following: structural technology, properties of materials and methods of construction, and environmental control systems. -OR- B. Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education in any of the areas listed in option A and experience that demonstrates the ability to successfully perform the duties associated with this work and which furnishes: (1) a thorough knowledge of the arts and sciences underlying Architecture, and (2) a good understanding, both theoretical and practical, of the Architectural principles, methods, and techniques and their applications to the design and construction or improvement of buildings. As a rule, every 30 semester (45 quarter) hours of college work is equivalent to one year of experience. Candidates should show that their combination of education and experience totals to 4 years. The adequacy of such background must be demonstrated by at least one of the following: 1. Related Curriculum: Degree in architectural engineering may be accepted as satisfying in full the basic requirements, provided the completed course work in architectural engineering provided knowledge, skills, and abilities substantially equivalent to those provided in the courses specified in paragraph A. The curriculum for a degree in either architecture or architectural engineering covers function, esthetics, site, structure, economics, mechanical-electrical, and other engineering problems related to the design and construction of buildings primarily (but not exclusively) intended to house human activities. The courses required for a degree in architecture generally place emphasis upon planning, esthetics, and materials and methods of construction, while the courses for an architectural engineering degree place equal or greater weight on the technical engineering aspects such as structural systems, mechanical systems, and the properties of materials. Because of this difference in emphasis, persons with degrees in architecture may have a preference for work assignments that offer greater opportunities for them to express their artistic and creative abilities. As a result, they may be more concerned with planning and design aspects of architecture, and persons with degrees in architectural engineering may be more engaged in aspects emphasizing technical engineering considerations. 2. Experience: An applicant lacking a degree in architecture must have had l year of experience in an architect's office or in architectural work for each year short of graduation from a program of study in architecture. In the absence of college courses, 5 years of such experience is required. This experience must have demonstrated that the applicant has acquired a thorough knowledge of the fundamental principles and theories of professional architecture. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENT: Climbing, use of legs and arms; Hearing (aid permitted). ENVIRONMENTAL REQUIREMENT: Working outside and inside; Working around excessive noise, intermittent; Exposure to dust; Exposure to silica, asbestos, etc; Exposure to fumes, smoke, or gases; Working around solvents (degreasing agents); Working around grease and oils; Working around electrical energy; Working around slippery or uneven walking surfaces; Working around machinery with moving parts; Working around moving objects or vehicles; Working on ladders or scaffolding.

    DESIRABLE QUALIFICATION CRITERIA: In addition to the mandatory qualifications, experience in the following is desired: 1. Current registration as a Professional Engineer (for Architectural Engineers) or Registered Architect (for Architects) in any state, District of Columbia, Puerto Rico or Guam. 2. Minimum of 10 years experience in the area of Architecture related to federal or private sector planning, programming, design, construction management and/or facilities operations. 3. Demonstrated experience applying local and national building, life safety/fire, electrical and plumbing codes and/or Unified Facilities Criteria (UFC). 4. DAWIA Level II certification in Facilities Engineering or certification as a Project Management Professional (PMP). 5. Certifications related to energy conservation as Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design (LEED). 6. Ability to quickly make well-versed decisions even with incomplete information under pressure. 7. Familiar with the latest trends and state-of-the-art technologies in facility design, construction, renovations, space management, construction delivery methods (Design-Bid- Build, Design-Build, Early Contractor Involvement, etc.).
