Performs a variety of advanced or lead professional duties for the Environmental Laboratory including all aspects of Quality Assurance (QA) and Quality Control (QC). Duties include but not limited to:
  • Works independently and as a team member.
  • Utilizes automated data management systems.
  • Establishes warning and control limits on all tests and parameters to ensure accuracy and reproducibility of all data.
  • Maintains and reviews Quality Control data on a daily basis.
  • Takes necessary steps to bring tests into control. Investigates all testing and data reporting that is outside of prescribed control limits.
  • Conducts special studies such as sampling plan evaluations, sample holding procedures, and comparability and new method evaluations.
  • Uses Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) approved laboratory methods and procedures, following Virginia Environmental Laboratory Accreditation Program (VELAP) guidelines.
  • Interprets and analyzes data and enters it into the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS), where it is reviewed by the Section Supervisor and ultimately used in the generation of inter- and intra-agency reports.
  • Writes reports including but not limited to: Monthly QC Inspections, Annual Internal Audits, and Quarterly Inspections.
Employment Standards MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Any combination of education, experience, and training equivalent to graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a bachelor's degree in the field related to the assigned functional area; plus two years of professional work experience within the functional area such as human resources, budgeting and financial management, contract administration and business management, statistics, mathematics, or related field.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Education and experience in conducting advanced statistical analysis as it relates to establishing QC Limits and method comparison studies. Ability to write clear, concise reports and a working knowledge/implementation of National Environmental Laboratory Accreditation Program (NELAP)/Virginia Environmental Laboratory Accreditation Program (VELAP) requirements. Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
