Job title: Tax Manager

 

Reporting to: Vice President, Director of Accounting

 

Salary: Commensurate with Experience

 

Location: Tysons Corner, Virginia

 

Purpose of the position

 

Privately held commercial real estate firm with a long history in the Tysons Corner metropolitan area is seeking a Tax Manager. Reporting to the Vice President, Director of Accounting, this employee will be responsible for the preparation of approximately 80 partnership and corporate tax returns as well as 6-10 individual tax returns.

 

 

Key responsibilities & duties

 

1. Timely preparation, calculation, filing, distribution and payment of all tax returns, extensions and quarterly estimated tax payments for wholly owned entities and partners

2. Safeguarding and file management of tax returns and corporate and partner financial and tax information

3. Maintains fixed asset schedules for each property by coordinating with property accountants, reviewing capital improvements, classifying property into appropriate classes and generating current and future years’ depreciation and amortization reports

4. Computes quarterly company-wide and related partner level tax projections

5. Preparation and distribution of K-1s to members

6. Monitors latest tax developments by reading daily tax report, relevant articles and attending seminars

7. Conducts research and prepares memorandum of conclusions for various tax issues as they arise

8. Prepares personal tax returns for owners

9. Coordinates the exchange of pertinent information such as copies of tax returns and financial statements used to project taxable income with outside parties

10. Conducts software updates for tax and fixed assets programs

11. Other duties as necessary or as they become necessary

 

 

 

Personal qualifications

 

The ideal candidate will possess a strong technical knowledge of, and experience in, federal and state partnership and individual tax preparation and compliance, preferable in the real estate industry. This person will bring with him/her a can do, hands on, whatever-it-takes to get the job done attitude. The candidate will take ownership of any and all tasks assigned to him/her in order to achieve the goals of the accounting/finance team and the company as a whole. Ability to work alone and as a key member of a team is critical to the success of this position.

 

 

Academic & trades qualifications

 

Undergraduate Degree in Accounting/Tax

CPA a plus

5+ years’ experience in a corporate or public accounting firm tax department

Must have experience in Partnership, Corporate and Individual tax return preparation

Ideal Candidate would be a Senior level public accounting firm employee with some audit/accounting experience and significant real estate tax experience

Experience with Jenark, Yardi, CCH proSystems, BNA Income Tax Planner as well as the Microsoft office suite is desired
