Job Title: PSYCHIATRIC NURSE Closing Date/Time: Thu. 06/28/18 11:59 PM Eastern Time Salary: $61,609.60 - $96,262.40 Annually
Job Type: Full-Time Location: 2120 Washington Boulevard, Arlington, VA 22204, Virginia       Arlington County's Department of Human Services is seeking a Psychiatric Nurse to provide professional nursing services for the Behavioral Health Care (BHC) Division. The employee works primarily in the Clarendon House program, which is Arlington County's nationally recognized Psychosocial Rehabilitation Program. The goal of the program is to prevent hospitalizations and to promote the highest level of community integration and independence to adults experiencing a serious mental illness through psychosocial rehabilitation and case management. The Psychiatric Nurse will also receive cross training to serve in Behavioral Health Care programs including Adult Outpatient Services, Program of Assertive Community Treatment (PACT), Same Day Access, and Office Based Opioid Treatment (OBOT) clinic.
 
Specific duties include
  • Performing comprehensive health needs assessments and coordinating primary care integration;
  • Conducting health screenings and administering direct care, including administration of IM injectable medications;
  • Referring clients to appropriate resources to promote client well-being;
  • Documenting client records to meet local, state, federal and agency requirements;
  • Providing nursing services for psycho-social day program activities;
  • Documenting and communicating verbally with insurance companies as needed for prior authorization medications;
  • Facilitating linkages with other service providers;
  • Coordinating the Psychiatric clinic in collaboration with the psychiatrist; and
  • Providing psycho-education and classes to consumers.
The successful candidate will possess assessment skills, critical thinking skills and a basic working knowledge of co-morbid medical conditions in the chronically mentally ill and/or dual diagnosed. The candidate must also be able to work independently, have effective communication skills and be able to work well with a variety of professional staff.
 Selection Criteria: Minimum: Bachelor's degree in Nursing plus one year of experience as a Registered Nurse in psychiatric nursing or in other nursing environments serving individuals with serious mental illness. 

Certification and licensing requirement:
  • Must be licensed or eligible for licensure as a Registered Nurse in Virginia or by endorsement from another state to practice professional nursing.
  • Must meet the criteria of a Qualified Mental Health Professional- Adult (QMHP-A) or a Licensed Mental Health Provider (LMHP) per the Virginia Board of Counseling regulations within 60 days of hire. https://www.dhp.virginia.gov/counseling/docs/QMHP_FAQs.pdf
Substitution: Education may be substituted by additional directly related experience on a year-for-year basis.

Desirable: Preference may be given to candidates with one or more of the following:
  •  Experience in psychosocial and case management services with individuals with a serious mental illness; and/or
  • Community or inpatient psychiatric experience.

 Special Requirements: Applicant must possess, or obtain by time of appointment, a valid motor vehicle operator's license from the applicant's place of residence. The applicant must authorize Arlington County to obtain, or the applicant must provide, a copy of the applicant's official state/district driving record. Any offer of employment may be contingent upon a favorable review of the applicant's driving record.

A pre-employment criminal records check will be conducted. It may include checks of the following: criminal record, driving record, education, professional licensure, and credit history. You may be required to sign a release authorizing the County to obtain your background information.

Must complete pre-hire federal background check and State of Virginia Central Registry check.
 Additional Information: Work Hours: Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
