Job Type: Full-Time Location: 2100 Washington Blvd., Arlington, (Sequoia Plaza) *ART Bus Accessible*, Virginia       The salary range above covers the Mental Health Therapist II position for a candidate who is hired without the appropriate Virginia clinical licensure. The salary range for Mental Health Therapist II (Licensed) is $61,609.60 - $94,078.40.

Are you an experienced intake clinician who is ready to bring your skills to the Behavioral Healthcare Division of the Department of Human Services (DHS)? This employee will be part of the Assessment and Intake Unit and will be responsible for completing comprehensive intake assessments and evaluations for adult clients seeking mental health and substance use services. This Unit provides "front door" functions for accessing services and information, including crisis intervention, assessment and evaluation, short-term case management, and referring clients for clinical treatment services in the Mental Health and Substance Abuse Bureaus. The clients served in the Bureau come from ethnically and culturally diverse populations.

Duties include:
  • Meeting face-to-face with adults and their support network to assess their needs and complete the intake process;
  • Determining preliminary treatment needs and making service recommendations;
  • Completing clinical and administrative documentation;
  • Collaborating with other direct line staff and supervisors to prioritize/triage intakes;
  • Providing short-term case management as needed; and
  • Following up with clients after the intake to ensure linkage to services.

 Selection Criteria: Minimum:
  • A Master's degree in a clinical discipline such as Counseling, Psychiatric Social Work, Art Therapist, Psychology, Psychiatric Nursing, or other directly related clinical discipline which required a clinical practicum prior to graduation involving diagnostic and treatment services PLUS two years post Master's Degree clinical experience providing clinical therapy and other mental health services, which included the application of intake and assessment, diagnostic and treatment services and
  • Meets the criteria of a Qualified Mental Health Professional- Adult (QMHP-A) and a Qualified Mental Health Professional – Child (QMHP-C) per the Virginia Board of Counseling regulations within 60 days of hire. https://www.dhp.virginia.gov/counseling/docs/QMHP_FAQs.pdf

Substitution: Directly related higher level clinical degree may substitute for the Master's Degree education requirement and one year of experience. In the case of this substitution, qualifying work experience must have been gained after the acquisition of the directly related higher level clinical degree.

Desirables: Preference may be given to candidates with the following background and/or experience:
  • Virginia licensure as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, Licensed Professional Counselor, Licensed Clinical Psychologist or Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist;
  • Significant substance abuse experience; and/or
  • Experience assessing emergent needs or crisis situations.

 Special Requirements: Applicant must possess, or obtain by the time of appointment, a valid motor vehicle operator's license from the applicant's place of residence or the applicant must have the ability and willingness to use alternative methods of transportation to perform assigned duties and responsibilities at locations other than the primary worksite. If the applicant possesses or acquires a license, the applicant must provide or authorize Arlington County to obtain a copy of the applicant's official state/district driving record. Any offer of employment may be contingent on a favorable review of the applicant's driving record.

Applicant must possess, or obtain by the time of appointment, a valid motor vehicle operator's license from the applicant's place of residence or the applicant must have the ability and willingness to use alternative methods of transportation to perform assigned duties and responsibilities at locations other than the primary worksite. A pre-employment criminal records check will be conducted. It may include checks of the following: criminal record, driving record, education, professional licensure, and credit history. You may be required to sign a release authorizing the County to obtain your background information.

 Additional Information: Work hours:40 hours per week, schedule will vary between 8:30 am and 6:30 p.m., depending on client needs with occasional evening hours.
